Blue Jays aren’t the most common sight across the American West, compared to other species of birds found in Red Dead Redemption 2. Still, it’s easy enough to spot their pretty blue feathers fluttering across the central regions of the map.

Playing Red Dead Online, you may be tasked with seeking them out now and then. So if you can’t quite remember the last time you saw one or where that happened to be, you can use this guide to quickly pinpoint the best Blue Jay locations in RDR2 and RDO.

Best Blue Jay Locations

New Austin

There’s really only one location to spot Blue Jays down in New Austin, on MacFarlane’s Ranch. Head down to the southern region of the property, and you should be able to spot a few from time to time.

West Elizabeth

  • In West Elizabeth’s Great Plains region, there have been more Blue Jay sightings east of Quaker’s Cove.
  • Crossing into the Tall Trees region to the west, you can spot Blue Jays from Bearclaw Camp near the Lower Montana River.
  • Around the cabin on the northern banks of the Aurora Basin is also a good birdwatching local when seeking out Blue Jays.
  • You can sometimes spot Blue Jays, directly northeast of the cabin at the Aurora Basin, along the western edge of the map. Try using your binoculars and Dead Eye for a better chance.
  • Continuing along the land’s western border, you’ll come to another known Blue Jay habitat near the southern banks of the Upper Montana River.
  • The land running north of the Ownajila in the Big Valley region is another reliable Blue Jay location.
  • The town of Strawberry, which lies east of the Owanjila, may also be worth a scout if you're hunting Blue Jay.
  • You may also spot the little blue birds from Monto’s Rest lying further to the east.
  • Dipping south towards Bard’s Crossing, you may see more Blue Jay flying south of the bridge on the West Elizabeth side.
  • There are also a couple of plots of land east of Mount Shann that Blue Jays are known to fly over.
  • On the opposite side of Mount Shann to the northwest, you’re also like to glimpse more Blue Jay.
  • There’s a more extensive Blue Jay habitat to the northwest of Wallace Station.
  • Passing Wallace Station to the east, you’re like to spot Blue Jay as well.

Ambardino

  • Just over West Elizabeth’s northern border into Ambardino, you may happen across more Blue Jay southwest of Cattail Pond.
  • Skipping over Cattail Pond to the northeast, you’re also likely to find some Blue Jay.
  • In the Grizzlies East on the opposite end of the state, you’ll find Moonstone Pond provides perching grounds for Blue Jay occasionally.
  • Continuing across the state to the northeast, you’ll come to the beautiful O’Creagh’s Run, where you may get lucky in catching some splendid bird photography.

New Hanover

  • The northernmost location for finding Blue Jay isn’t in Ambardino but actually in the Roanoke Ridge region of New Hanover, up above Brandywine Drop.
  • Following the Kamassa River down to Annesburg is your best bet from the drop, along with a few spots along the river west of town and Annesburg itself.
  • You should also find Blue Jay around the southern banks of the Elysian Pool and following the Kamassa River South.
  • Most of the land south of Van Horn Trading Post is a safe bet when hunting for Blue Jay. Break out those binoculars.
  • Further south, there is a smaller Blue Jay habitat between a bend in the river and the Lemoyne border.
  • There have been further Blue Jay sightings to the northeast and southeast of Emerald Station in The Heartlands.
  • One Blue Jay habitat straddles the New Hanover/Ambardino border, just north of the last locations.
  • Keep an eye out for more Blue Jays crossing the central Heartlands while traveling to better habitats on the other side of the state.
  • The land all around Caliban’s Seat and south of Valentine is great birdwatching territory for those looking for Blue Jays.
  • The Dakota River is a cornucopia of wildlife, including Blue Jay. You may find the little blue birds on either side of the river, though they seem to appear more commonly on the banks of New Hanover.
  • The land southwest and southeast of Flatneck Station is also worth a look.

Lemoyne

  • Blue Jays only inhabit the Scarlett Meadows within Lemoyne, the most northern location in the state is positioned right above where the “O” in Lemoyne falls on the map.
  • The top stretches of Ringneck Creek are a tranquil watering hole for Blue Jays.
  • Continuing the trek west, you pass through another Blue Jay habitat as you near the shores of Flat Iron Lake.
  • Another Blue Jay habitat is found along the shores of a small bay directly south of the last location. The habitat grows more significant as you near the city of Rhodes.
  • There’s a minor Blue Jay population at Calliga Hall.
  • Blue Jays fly southwest of Bolger Glade on occasion.
  • Blue Jays also enjoy perching around Braithwaite Manor, primarily near the animal pens to the west, near the shores of Flat Iron Lake.
