Fox Locations

Fox locations in Red Dead Redemption 2 Online legendary variants Ota and Cross

Foxes can be found in nearly every stretch of West Elizabeth, New Hanover, and Lemoyne. However, their population is denser in certain areas than in others.

Lemoyne

  • There is a concentrated habitat for foxes West of Lagras.
  • Foxes also frequent the banks of the Kamassa River, though only as far downstream as the bend that forms a sort of peninsula to the West of Saint Denis.
  • The Scarlett Meadows is the largest fox habitat in Lemoyne
    • Their romping grounds span the length of the meadows.
    • In the Northern region above Rhodes, this habitat spreads further West and East than in the Southern parts of the meadows.
    • A light population of foxes also roams the banks of the Lannahechee River at the southern end of the meadows.

New Hanover

  • A large fox population centered around the Van Horn Trading Post runs both South towards the Lemoyne border and North towards Annesburg.
    • This widespread habitat begins to thin out in the land to the West below the Elysian Pool.
  • But the sparse hunting ground is encircled by denser habitats along the Lemoyne border, throughout the Emerald Station territory, and along the Ambardino border as well.
  • Foxes also wander up North of Annesburg.
    • You’ll primarily find them along the Kamassa River and above the Brandywine Drop.
  • In the Western regions of New Hanover, foxes primarily patrol the borders. You should specifically search near these locations.
    • Along the lower bend of the Dakota River.
    • Across Caliban’s Seat and Citadel Rock.
    • Along the Ambardino border in the Northeast region of Valentine.
    • They are not often found in the centralized area of The Heartlands.

West Elizabeth

  • The densest population of foxes in West Elizabeth resides between the Owanjilla Dam and Strawberry and continues down the Upper Montana River.
    • This habitat trails off across the northern Tall Trees region towards the Aurora Basin.
    • To the North, the habitat begins to spread out along the Western border above Owanjilla.
  • Foxes have also been seen meandering along Hawk’s Eye Creek on either side of the city of Strawberry, as far south as Riggs Station and where the creek meets the Upper Montana River.
    • The population dissipates to the North, sprawling along Little Creek River and West Elizabeth’s Northern border.
    • Naturally, you will find some traffic flowing between these areas and the Dakota River, but it’s best to keep to the central habitats if you’re in a rush.
  • South of the Aurora Basin along the Lower Montana River is prime hunting grounds for foxes.
    • This population spreads out across the Tall Trees region and along The Great Plains
    • The banks around Quaker’s Cove, Thieve’s Landing, and Still Water Creek are sometimes spotted with the thirsty critters as well.

New Austin

  • The fox population noticeably lessens in the arid climate of New Austin, but there is a sparse habitat that spills over from West Elizabeth.
    • Foxes seem to bypass MacFarlane’s Ranch in favor of Hennigan’s Stead.
    • They’ll roam the length of Hennigan’s Stead and along the Saint Luis River.
  • New Austin’s largest fox population centers around the town of Armadillo.
  • A much lighter fox population inhabits the Rio Bravo region.

Ambardino

  • Up North, Ambardino’s most frequent fox sightings occur along the Eastern banks of Donner Falls.
    • These sightings stretch North below the Calumet Ravine and South around Bacchus Bridge.
    • The habitat dies off into the Northern region of The Grizzlies East
  • A moderate fox population can be sighted throughout Cumberland Forest.
    • They don’t seem to stray much past the Whinyard Strait and Granite Pass.
  • Foxes will follow the Dakota River past Valentine in the Southern region of The Grizzlies West.
    • They’ll even venture a little ways North, following the creek up to Cattail Pond.
  • You may get lucky and spot a tiny population on the southern shore of Barrow Lagoon.
  • There are also minor locations further North on either side of Cairn Lake.

The Different Breeds of Fox

The more common breeds of foxes are all geographically diverse, though they do show their preferences. American Red and American Gray Fox both enjoy sprawling out throughout the central states of West Elizabeth, New Hanover, and Lemoyne. The less common Silver Fox seems to enjoy the Northern climate and tends to keep to the regions of Ambardino and New Hanover.

Ota Fox

The legendary Ota Fox dons a vibrant white and red patched coat and keeps to the northern regions of the Scarlett Meadows in Lemoyne. This legendary variant may appear anywhere within this vicinity, with some staple landmarks being:

  • Ringneck Creek
  • Mattock Pond
  • Southfield Flats
  • The shores of Flat Iron Lake

The Ota Fox keeps to the safety of its den mostly, only emerging in the morning hours between six and nine and only during clear weather. Though, some claim sightings of this rare variant as a clear day settles into dusk.

Cross Fox

The Cross Fox is a legendary variant exclusive to Harriet Davenport’s Legendary Animal Sightings Missions. Furthermore, the player must attain rank 5 in the Naturalist role before taking on the required mission. This fox with a distinctive tri-color coat has the folks in the Bayou Nwa a buzz with rumors of its sightings.
