It is not an understatement to say that when Red Dead Redemption 2 launched its online service for players, the going was rough. Ten months later, things are looking far better, and the new Frontier Pursuits update brings new specialist roles and a battle pass system to the game a short month following its initial reveal.

Each option presents a unique path filled with themed objectives according to their choice of becoming a Bounty Hunter, a Trader, or a Collector. Those who elect to become Bounty Hunters will live a dangerous life, hunting down wanted criminals for a reward, if you can stay alive long enough to claim it. Traders will embrace their inner business personas to partner with Cripps to transform the camp into a business hub, inviting others from all over to trade and buy your wares. Finally, the Collector will seek treasures both valuable and arcane.

Players need not choose only one of the roles, and can take on all three at once if they choose. To begin a role, a player needs 15 Gold Bars to acquire the necessary Bounty Hunter License, Butcher Table, or Collector’s Bag. Alternatively, Twitch Prime Members who linked their Twitch and Rockstar Games Social Club accounts by Sunday, September 8th, will receive the Bounty Hunter License for free. Those who link from now on can expect theirs within 72 hours of making the link between accounts.

Collector’s who have hunted down all 54 hidden playing cards in GTA Online can claim the Collector’s Bag, and Traders with an active PlayStation Plus subscription can acquire the Butcher’s Table for free, both until October 14th.

In addition to the specialist roles now available, Rockstar Games has also made the following changes:

  • New items, weapons, clothing, and horse-drawn vehicles
  • Directional damage indicators to display where your character is hit from
  • Additional horse breeds
  • The ability to change your character’s appearance without resetting progress
  • Expanded custom outfit slots
  • The ability to name saved outfits
  • Role-specific Free Roam Events
  • Increased selling prices for looted Jewelry
  • Increased movement and animations speeds for more responsive combat (including aiming, cocking, and reloading), faster looting and more

Aside from the specialist roles, all players who log in to Red Dead Online between September 10th and November 18th will become enrolled in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Club, which grants new clothing, accessories, a special gun wrap, bonus cash, free care packages, and more, as well as a new graphic camp flag.

The free version of this battle pass system is available to all, and those who wish for even more to add to their collection can grab The Outlaw Pass for 35 Gold Bars. This offers additional rewards in the form of exclusive clothing, weapons stylings, campsite themes, bonus cash, Gold gifts up to 35 Gold Bars, and more.
