Google Stadia is shutting down, meaning that users will lose access to any games they have purchased through the platform. As such, Google is issuing refunds for hardware and software, but this doesn't address one glaring problem - save data.

That's the issue that one Red Dead Redemption 2 player has run into. They've logged a staggering 6,000 hours, most of which is for Online, and all of that is set to vanish as Stadia fades into the aether (as spotted by Games Radar). There are some slight workarounds for getting single-player save data off the cloud so that you can use it on PC - although you'll then need to purchase the game again. This doesn't work for Online, though.

"You don't understand how seriously pissed off I am", Colour wrote in their tweet, attaching a screenshot showing their playtime of 5,907 hours. "For context, these hours are on Google Stadia and today Google announced they'll be shutting down the platform. @RockstarGames please let us do a one-time character transfer I am begging you."

That's about 70 percent of a year that this player has put into Red Dead Online, and all of that will be gone when Stadia itself closes. But rather than going to Google, Colour has raised the issue with Red Dead Online itself, begging for a character transfer. It's unclear if Google will make any action to preserve save data for its users, but even developers are being left in the dark by the announcement.

If you want to try and salvage any single-player save data, you can use a tool called Google Takeout which will transfer your file to your PC. But if you used Stadia for any online games that didn't have local saves, there's little you can do right now unless Google or the game developers themselves announce a solution.
