Last week, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar picked up on the Hot Coffee mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 and asked for its removal, citing how the authors of the mod broke the game's EULA (end-user license agreement). After some hesitation and potential refusal to remove the mod, mod author Unlosing has made the decision to effectively hide the mod from its Nexus page.
Originally, the Hot Coffee mod was released to pay homage to its original source which was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Hot Coffee was essentially a mini-game within Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that had CJ engage with one of his girlfriends in physical intercourse after said girlfriend invited him over for some "hot coffee" (hence the name).
However, Rockstar decided to remove the mini-game from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (fearing that it would hurt the game's marketability), but managed to leave the source code for it within the game's files. When modders and data miners came across Hot Coffee's source code, they resurrected the mini-game, prompting controversies and making Rockstar re-release the game without the mini-game in it.
Although the controversies were dealt with, fans never forgot about Hot Coffee and decided to incorporate it in future Rockstar games, including Red Dead Redemption 2, via mods. This time, the company and publisher Take-Two Interactive decided to take action against the mod, essentially demanding its removal from the internet.
When Unlosing got word that Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive found out about the mod, he argued that the mod was for single player only and how it used assets from the actual game (for example, the bar mission with Lenny for the sex positions, and the noises the playable character makes when falling down for sex itself). As such, he refused to take the mod down until yesterday.
As of the time of the writing, if one goes to the mod's Nexus page, the following message appears "This mod has been set to hidden. Hidden at 24 Feb 2020, 3:48AM by UnlosingPlays." It's not exactly clear what prompted the mod author to remove the mod, but it's safe to say that the pressure from Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive was the main reason.
