Despite Red Dead Redemption 2 having a robust story and a lot of story-related content, it seems that there was supposed to be even more, if newly uncovered player discoveries are anything to go by.

According to some Red Dead Redemption 2 players, they managed to find a story-related mission for Arthur Morgan in the New Austin area of the game. The reason why this is so strange is because Arthur never really gets an opportunity to travel to New Austin. Instead, when players beat the game, they get control of John Marston who gets access to the area. They then have free access to the entire game and can explore every location including New Austin, but only as John Marston.

If the screenshot is anything to go by, then one can assume that the portion of the game that allowed Arthur to access New Austin was completely removed. However, there could also be the possibility for potential DLC that'll allow players early access to New Austin.  That however is very doubtful, especially since Rockstar stated they have no plans to release story-based DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2. As such, the content being planned in somme early stage but removed is the more likely guess.

Needless to say, the presented evidence shouldn't be taken too seriously because it could be a hoax. Until more information is discovered, like more missions, more side missions, additional content, or anything that can be seen as story-related, the image should be taken with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, if the discovered information does turn out to be true and accurate, that can lead to interesting theories as well as possible speculations.

The newly-discovered content is yet another example of what is missing in the game. Back in November, a modder was able to discover Princess Isabeau Katharina Zinsmeister's true identity and how she actually was in the game after all (despite the game presenting little evidence or any explanations about her identity and/ or who she is supposed to be). Still, it will be interesting to find out future discoveries as time goes on.
