Following the announcement of the Resident Evil 3 remake, Capcom made an unexpected addition to Resident Evil 2 that serves to link together events from each game. The addition comes in the form of an achievement titled “Chasing Jill” that tasks players with finding a letter written by Jill Valentine, the protagonist of the upcoming remake.

All players need to do is “read a letter left behind by Jill.” Since there are already so many letters in the game that players can find, this achievement might have gone unnoticed if not for some vigilant players. Players who have not played the original Resident Evil 2 and 3 games may not know that both games take place at almost the same time with some major overlap, but the characters never meet. As the remake approaches its release, players should not be surprised if Capcom adds even more letters for players to find.

To find the letter written by Jill, players need to ensure that they have the most up to date version of the game and begin a new campaign with Leon. Inside of the Kendo Gunshop, the letter can be found in the back corner, on a table. The letter is from Jill to Robert Kendo, and states, “Kendo, I understand that you have no reason to run, so I trust that you take care of yourself. But if the situation gets worse and the 'other way' don’t work, you know where to find me. I’ll help you. Jill Valentine.”

We know as well from a letter written to his long-time friend and S.T.A.R.S. member, Barry Burton, that Robert looks to escape to the nearby town of Stone Ville. For now it is unclear what purpose these letters serve in the game, however as Capcom has done with the Resident Evil series in the past, there is likely a connection or Easter egg to be made available for players of Resident Evil 3 who have found this and any future letters written by Jill.

The most infamous example of this was seen with the demo for Resident Evil 7, in which players collaborated online for months to figure out how to “beat” the demo. The reward for doing so was virtually insignificant once the game formally launched, but the process of discovering every secret the demo had to offer was fascinating. Check out the video below for a complete run through of everything necessary to complete the demo, which took months of investigation to figure out.

We may not see the same level of intrigue added to Resident Evil 2, however given that the launch of the next remake is about five months away, there is a tremendous potential for Capcom to drive up interest by adding in more and more secrets to uncover before diving into Jill Valentine’s efforts to escape Raccoon City in one piece!

Resident Evil 3 will launch on April 3, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
