Ahead of the releases of both The Last of Us: Part II and Resident Evil 3's remake, one fan has created a mod that turns Resident Evil 2's Claire Redfield into Ellie from 2013's The Last of Us.

Darknessvaltier paid very close attention to detail when creating the Ellie mod. According to Dark Side of Gaming, the mod is essentially a replacement of Claire's Elza Walker costume in Resident Evil 2. As such, when the Elza Walker costume is chosen,  players end up essentially controlling Ellie from The Last of Us.

Footage of the mod in action can be seen below.

The Ellie mod is  fairly impressive. With accurate clothing,  similar hair, and other familiar features and accessories, the mod does make players feel like they are in the shoes of one of The Last of Us' protagonists. Barring the voice, which is still that of Claire Redfield, it is a very convincing mod.

Mods with similar intent have been made before for 2019's Resident Evil 2, in which a character or two were replaced by models of characters from other renowned games. For example, Mr. X's character model has been replaced with mods and multiple occasions before, including the goose from Untitled Goose Game. There is also a mod for Resident Evil 2 that transforms Mr. X into Thomas the Tank Engine and one that turns Mr. X into Big Smoke from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and turns Leon S. Kennedy into C.J. from the same game.

These characters' recreations are admirable and deserve our respect for the sheer attention to detail. As for whether modders will try the same with Resident Evil 3, we'll have to see when the time comes, but we remain hopeful. Now that we have the Ellie mod, it is worth pointing out that there has yet to be a widely-recorded instance of PC players playing as Joel, so we'll keep our fingers crossed.
