That’s right. You think the Resident Evil 2 remaster is going to be tense? The demo is already here, and it’s about to show you the true meaning of the word, with a strict time limit.
As we all know, we’re living in the era of the remake, the remaster, the HD Edition, the general re-release. Nintendo Switch has been particularly guilty of trotting out old games of late, with the likes of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker and the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe all being ported from the Wii U.
Granted, very few people would have got the chance to play these titles the first time around (they were Wii U games, after all), but that’s no excuse. At the end of the day, though, nostalgia is a powerful force, and remakes tend to be very popular.
The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was a big hit on various formats, and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy was so big that Snoop Dogg had a copy flown across America to his home, via Spyro-drone (yep, that was a real thing that happened).
The key to success remastering games is an obvious one: pick the game carefully. Resident Evil 2 is a title that fans have been clamouring to see remade for years, an entry that just hasn’t seen the love that’s been lavished on other games in the series (such as the original and prequel Resident Evil Zero).

At last, the wait is almost over, and the spangly new take on Resident Evil 2 arrives on January 25. Quite understandably, series veterans are desperate to jump in. Well, here’s the good news: a very special demo will be available to play from January 11.
The 1-Shot Demo, as it’s being called, will be available to download on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, from this Friday until January 31. It will feature Leon S. Kennedy as the playable character, and give players a specific task to perform. Here’s the kicker: you’ve got only thirty minutes to complete your mission objective. What exactly this will consist of, we don’t know yet, but you’d better be quick about it.
It’s probably a safe bet that there are Lickers or other grisly beasts involved, which is just the kind of thing you don’t want to be dealing with under a strict time limit. Darn it, Capcom.
Whether you succeed or fail in your mysterious mission, there’s another little bonus included with the demo: an exclusive cinematic trailer for the game. Look out for the One-Shot Demo, coming to your format of choice (unless your format of choice is Nintendo Switch, in which case you’re out of luck) in time for the weekend.
