The Resident Evil series has long existed as one of the top-tier horror franchises in video gaming. Ever since its debut in the '90s, the series has had its ebbs and flows, and it has gone through multiple evolutions. Now the series is rumored to be getting another remake treatment in the form of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. While that's exciting, it will only be appropriate for the series' third iteration to be available for nothing more than $40.

The remake of Resident Evil 2 released earlier this year and quickly became one of 2019's standout titles and one of the best games in the series. Combining the third-person perspective that began in Resident Evil 4 with the survival horror elements of the PS1 games, it illustrated itself as having the best of both worlds, with all of the spookiest components of the original Resident Evil 2, including Mr. X, Lickers, zombie dogs, and more.

The rumor of a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis seems a lot closer to reality than once thought. When that does happen, and despite the fact that Resident Evil 3 stands (mostly) on its own merits, it is not a game deserving of the full $60 asking price.

Resident Evil 3 was a good game. However, it tended to reuse a lot of the elements seen in Resident Evil 2. This is not only terms of gameplay, but Resident Evil 3 even reused some of Resident Evil 2's layout. Most notably, an entire section of Resident Evil 3 was dedicated to the Raccoon City Police Department, which was the primary location of Resident Evil 2. It was a neat callback, but it was also indicative of recycled design.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis does deserve a remake treatment in the style of Resident Evil 2. However, if it reuses the same Resident Evil 2 elements without adding anything new, then a $60 asking price is a bit much for the game. If Capcom does manage to surprise fans with new content, then a Resident Evil 3 remake might be worth the same price as the Resident Evil 2 remake. If the game is just a simple upgrade, a $40 price is a tad more reasonable.
