Resident Evil 4 Remake is an all-new presentation of one of the most beloved horror games of all time. Returning players will find a lot that's familiar, and just enough new and unknown content to keep them on your toes. If you've never played the original, buckle up - you're about to experience a game that changed survival horror forever.
Whether you've played the original or not, there are some fundamental strategies that will make it much easier to survive the game's many terrors. Read on for classic tips and important new tactics!
Move Your Inventory Around To Make Room
Your inventory consists of a grid, onto which items are placed when you pick them up. Small items like grenades hardly take up any space, but weapons and resources can fill up your available room very quickly. Luckily, you can move and rotate items within your attaché case to give yourself more space to work with.
As the game progresses, you'll unlock more inventory space, but also have more stuff to carry around. Expect that you'll need to re-organize your inventory every few chapters. If you can't pick up something you've just found, chances are good that you can make room simply by rearranging.
Craft What You Need
In the original game, you could mix different-colored Herbs to get improved healing items. You can still do that in the remake, but there are many more items to craft as well! By combining gunpowder and resources, you can restock your ammo on the fly and even make critical items like Flash Grenades!
If you're in a tight spot, open up your inventory and see if there's anything you can craft that would save the day. An extra handful of shotgun shells could be all it takes to survive your current encounter!
Sell And Store Weapons
Whenever you find a typewriter - the classic Resident Evil save point - you can stash any weapons that you don't need to save space in your inventory. This is useful if a particular gun is completely out of ammo, or if you just need to make some extra room.
The Merchant will also offer good prices for weapons, providing you with the money you need for upgrades, healing items, and more. He'll even refund you any upgrade costs that you've invested in a weapon when you sell it! You can buy back the weapon later, but all of its upgrades will have been removed.
Fully Upgrade Treasures Before Selling Them
Occasionally, you'll find special items called Treasures hidden throughout the village and its surrounding area. Most can be sold straight away for extra cash, but a few have sockets that can be inlaid with gems. Each socket that's filled increases the value of the Treasure, allowing you to sell it for more.
It's always best to save your gems and fully inlay any Treasures you find. Treasures sell for the most when all the gems socketed into them are of the same type.
Check The Map Often
The map makes it easy to get your bearings, and can be checked at any time from the inventory menu. It's especially useful for finding hidden collectibles, many of which will appear on the map when you're near them, even if you didn't see them as you passed.
Purists might not like the idea of the map giving them hints for finding collectibles, but don't worry - there's still plenty of challenge to find some of the Blue Medallions and Wind-Up Dolls, even if you know the general area of where to look. Many of these objects are expertly hidden, requiring you to stand in an exact position just to spot them, so there's no shame in using the map.
Listen For Audio Cues
Enemies, hidden items, and secrets in Resident Evil 4 Remake all have make distinct (and at times subtle) sounds. Listening carefully to your surroundings is a great way to make sure that you don't miss anything.
From the rhythmic ticking of Wind-Up Dolls to the heart-stopping sputter of a chainsaw, if you hear something other than Leon's footsteps, it's always worth paying attention to the surrounding sounds!
