Resident Evil fans have been waiting for a remake of the fourth entry for years now, so you can't blame them for taking any information where they can get it. As spotted by one incredibly eagle-eyed Reddit user, there was actually a reference to Resident Evil 4 at the PlayStation Showcase this week - but we probably all missed it.
In that incredibly strange chess-based intro to the showcase, anyone who was actually paying attention would have noticed a few gaming references were thrown in there, although typically they were based on PlayStation exclusives. Yet in one of the shots, you can see the Las Plagas parasite symbol from Resident Evil 4, perhaps indicating that we'll get some news soon.
If this isn't actually hinting at an announcement, it would be an odd inclusion in the trailer. Resident Evil 4 is hardly synonymous with the PS2, having initially launched on the GameCube, before later being ported to the Sony console, as well as PC. It has now since made its way onto every platform ever.
The inclusion is made even more intriguing when you consider that the latest instalment, Resident Evil Village, wasn't an exclusive either, also making its way onto Xbox, PC and Google Stadia.
Eager Resident Evil 4 fans do have something to look forward to, however - yet another port. This time it's a VR release, so at least it'll feel a bit different from all the other times you've played it.
