When Resident Evil Village was announced during the PS5 event last week, it was revealed that the game would be coming out sometime in 2021 for next-generation consoles and PC. The information left some of the fans wondering if the game would see a release for current-generation consoles, or if a downgraded version of the game would be released instead in order to meet the requirements. As it turns out however, Resident Evil Village is only planned for next-generation consoles.

The information about the game comes from insider Dusk Golem, the same source who accurately predicted Resident Evil Village's announcement down to the setting, title, characters, and more. This time around, Dusk Golem explained why Capcom has essentially abandoned current-generation consoles and decided to primarily focus on next-generation consoles instead. According to the insider, it was due to technical limitations and graphics that current-generation consoles would not be able to handle, and because of the loading zones placed throughout Resident Evil Village's open world setting.

To be more specific, Dusk Golem states that Resident Evil Village will have players travel through the majority of the village, and as such, go through a number of load zones. Since one of the goals of next-generation consoles is to remove or significantly reduce loading times, current-generation consoles would be experiencing a lot of loading times as well as having "notable issues." Additionally, current-generation consoles would end up experiencing a lot of pop-in effects and long-texture loads as players moved through an area. Furthermore, in addition to graphics, the previously noted issues would make Resident Evil Village look less pretty on current-generation consoles.

Ultimately, if Dusk Golem's insider information does turn out to be true, then current-generation fans will essentially miss out on Resident Evil Village unless they upgrade to PS5, Xbox Series X, or are able to play the game on PC. As always, however, it would be best to wait for any official announcements from Capcom and see if the company offers some sort of an alternative to please current-generations fans (though that seems extremely unlikely based on Dusk Golem's information and tweets).
