Resident Evil 4 Remake has just arrived, bringing Leon and Ashley back for another romp around a creepy Spanish village. And while everyone is loving the double dose of nostalgia and modern graphics that the remake provides, some Resident Evil fans are already thinking ahead to the franchise’s next entry. And they want Chris and Jill to star.

Over on the Resident Evil subreddit, user Laser_Disc_Hot_Dish is asking for Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine to get "back together in RE9." Last we saw Chris he was busy knocking out a certain Ethan Winters and dragging him to Europe, while Jill hasn't been seen in action since Resident Evil: Revelations. That's so long as you don't count her live-action appearances or the CG films which largely lag behind the games in terms of Resident Evil's timeline.

In fact, most of the replies focused on seeing Jill as the main protagonist of the next mainline Resident Evil game. "I just want Jill to star in RE9," wrote one user, while another expressed concern for her whereabouts. "Even just a check-in with Jill? Like... is she OK?"

While there was a lot of love for Jill, there wasn't a lot of interest in seeing Chris return as the star of Resident Evil 9. "Jill and Sheva for RE9," suggested user T-408. "Maybe they have to save Chris? Or he is in a supporting role here? I’d love to see Chris reunited with Jill (and Sheva!), but I don’t want another Chris-centric game. Jill deserves the spotlight."

Other users were less kind in their desire to see Chris take a step back from the spotlight. "Can we please get a game that doesn't have Chris in it," one user asked.

Capcom is almost certainly brainstorming for Resident Evil 9 if not already in active development, but we haven't heard anything about the game or who might return as starring characters. For all we know, Resident Evil 9 will throw another new character like Ethan Winters in Resident Evil 7.

We do know that Resident Evil 4's The Mercenaries DLC will arrive on April 7 as a free post-launch DLC.
