The first Resident Evil from 1996 allows you to pick between two different characters for the story: Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. Both went on to become important parts of the lore. Chris Redfield in particular is the playable character in numerous mainline entries.

He has also gone through several significant redesigns, to the point of becoming unrecognizable. The following list showcases his best of these looks and outfits. Chris' looks have not always gone over well with fans. The redesign to make him look younger in Resident Evil 7, for example, is definitely not making it onto this list.

10 Resident Evil: Village

Chris seems to turn to the dark side in the most recent Resident Evil entry. This is reflected in the black attire he wears. The jacket and turtleneck just scream villain. Is Chris really a villain or is he doing this for some other reason. Even if it was justified it will be hard for Ethan to not want to kill Chris. If the trailer is to be believed, Chris kills Ethan's wife, Mia.

9 Warrior

Resident Evil 5 comes with several interesting outfits for both Chris and his partner Sheva. The Warrior getup does not protect Chris's body very well, but it is rather stylish. What appears to be a Mad Max cosplay is great for the extremely hot setting.

The bandoliers are also a nice touch. The shoulder pads are pragmatic, since they will shield against bites. The pads might be a cue from Jill Valentine's outfit from Resident Evil 1.

8 Slacker Outfit

Resident Evil's remake from 2002 is considered one of the finest games from the GameCube's catalogue. Fortunately it was ported to other consoles over a decade later. One of the more interesting and subtle alternate outfits from the game sees Chris with a red shirt and a beanie. He looks less like a member or S.T.A.R.S. and more like someone who wants to talk to you about his intense love of Streetlight Manifesto.

7 Heavy Metal

Where Chris's outfit does not provide too much protection from heavy weapons, the Heavy Metal outfit is Chris saying "better safe than sorry." The suit is almost like power armor from the Fallout series minus the helmet. We are starting to think Chris became so buff just from walking around with this suit. This is probably what we'd pick if we were heading out to take out biological threats.

6 Ninja Outfit

The original Resident Evil was re-released for the Nintendo DS as Deadly Silence. It adds some touch screen functionality to the classic and also adds this outfit for Chris. We don't know what advantage dressing up has when taking on a horde of zombies in a mansion. It is not like Chris is trying to even sneak by them. Still, it is nice to go through the game a second time with a new, completely unrealistic suit.

5 Code Veronica

Chris's Code Veronica look is understated, but sometimes that is a plus. Mainly, it was really cool to see Chris in such high fidelity back in 2000 on the Dreamcast when we had previously only seen him in the first Resident Evil four years prior.

It looks quaint by today's standards, but it is not intolerable to look at. Code Veronica is also special because Chris finally reunites with his sister Claire Redfield.

4 Resident Evil 5

When Resident Evil 5 was first announced, many were surprised to see the main protagonist turn out to be Chris Redfield. He looks completely different than in prior games. However, it makes sense for him to truly buff up and reach top physical peak after Wesker beats him up in Code Veronica. It also represents a solid juxtaposition between him and Wesker. Where Wesker is using a virus to become stronger artificially, Chris is a one hundred percent human.

3 Resident Evil 1

You cannot beat a classic. Resident Evil revolutionized the survival horror genre in 1996. As such, it is always a pleasure when a title lets you dress Chris Redfield up in the classic outfit. You can put on the old S.T.A.R.S. outfit in Resident Evil 5, though the face remains the same. We wonder if Chris still keeps his old outfit around. It probably does not fit him anymore, though; especially in the sleeves.

2 Safari Outfit

This outfit from Resident Evil 5 feels like Chris got the wrong memo when he was sent to Africa. Instead of gearing up for an important mission for the BSAA, this seems like he is going on a vacation and wants to be as stylish as possible. The Zebra pattern is a nice touch. Practicality is not always the most important thing. Sometimes you want to shoot enemies in style. We just hope no zebras were harmed in the making of this outfit.

1 Sailor Outfit

Resident Evil: Revelations is a particularly celebrated spin-off. It came out on the Nintendo 3DS before ports made their way to consoles. The Raid Mode features numerous bonus costumes, one of which is this Sailor outfit for Chris Redfield. Not only is it endlessly charming, but it also shows off the protagonist's impressive gams. It is clear Chris never skips leg day. Once you unlock the outfit for Raid Mode, you can wear it during the campaign.
