These are some of the most terrifying pieces of Resident Evil fan art around, and each one deserves high marks for its inventive use of colors, themes and subjects to sell the scares. Steady yourself before scrolling down! There's no telling what might lurk within this list.

10 Mia Portrait

Artist Scott Jones captures the spine-tingling terror of Mia in her bestial form - a sight all-too familiar for Resident Evil 7 fans. The limited palette puts all the emphasis on shaping the detail using shades of sickly green, which is effective against the heavily vignetted backdrop.

The detail in the hair is another nice touch, blending in nicely with the black abyss that makes up the outskirts of the picture. It's another reminder of just how terrifying it is to walk around alone in Resident Evil 7.

9 Virus Artist

Artist Tadas Sadauskas created this particular work as a group project for Escape Studios, and was designed as one part of a larger overall environment crafted in Unreal Engine 4. This particular snippet is a work of art all its own, and a terrifying addition to the Resident Evil mythos.

According to the artist, this was a conceptual design for a possible Resident Evil DLC pack based in London. The webpage features a video showcasing just how detailed the environment truly is, and Tadas deserves big marks for all his work.

8 Licker

Bumping into Lickers in Resident Evil never gets easier. They're one of the more adrenaline-pumping foes in the franchise, and their lack of eyesight does little to comfort players too afraid to make the slightest noise, for fear of tipping them off.

Artist Odd Jorge really knocked this work out of the park, with an enormous amount of detail loaded into the creature. The Licker's skinned body unveils the sinew and tissue underneath, and the use of saliva effects on the tongue really brings it to life in the most nightmarish manner possible.

7 Wesker

Artist Anastasia Beletskaya managed to capture antagonist Albert Wesker in a particularly frightening pose, and there's a lot going on in this work. The clever use of muted grays and blacks puts emphasis on Wesker's face, which is tinted with flesh colors that are corrupted by the monster lurking within.

Wesker's glowing red eyes sharply punctuate the shot to round out his menace, proving once again that he's a baddie not to be trifled with. The detail in the hair is astonishing, as well. Overall, a top notch winner.

6 Zombie Dog

Artist Sam Fakhri did a magnificent model of the zombie pooch made so famous in the original Resident Evil, and its sequel. The dog model is very detailed, but it's the rotted flesh effects that truly give it a sense of menace.

It's also an interesting take on the original zombie dog, as Sam has swapped the traditional Doberman design in favor of a Rottweiler, which is arguably far more frightening and intimidating.

5 Nemesis

Artist joverine's take on Nemesis looks like it could be on the cover of a Resident Evil graphic novel. The artistry and detail is amazing, right down to the simulation of rain effects bouncing off of the monster's trench coat.

The glowing barrel on the left hand side is the only sprinkle of warmth throughout the entire shot, and the glow cast effect from its fire onto Nemesis' arm is an unnecessary, but excellent addition that makes it stand out just a bit more.

4 The Executioner

Artist TheChaoticKnight brings the terrifying Executioner Majini to life with this amazing work. The key element at play here is the heavy use of realistic silhouetting caused by the light source in the background, which appears to be a massive explosion in progress.

The ground at his feet is bathed in red for horrific effect, while his minions stand behind him in a gesture of unification. There's a lot to process in the picture, and it tells a story in ways that few other Resident Evil works even bother to.

3 Mr. X

Artist XiaoBotong captures Claire Redfield in great peril in this terrifying shot. As she scans her surroundings for any imminent threats, she fails to notice the T-00 Mr. X Tyrant creeping up behind her for what is sure to be an unhappy ending!

The sense of dread in this piece is highly effective for Resident Evil players used to running in terror from this frightening brute. The traditional looking art style and soft colors are an especially nice touch that helps sell the moment.

2 Licker Returns

Artist Sally-Jackson is big on horror pieces, and she brings the same kind of fear and terror to her Resident Evil 2 shot featuring a Licker on the prowl for victims. To its left stand Claire and Sherri, the latter of which looks absolutely petrified as she attempts to stay quiet and avoid detection.

In fact, the look on Sherri's face is captured so well that viewers can easily imagine themselves in that same predicament. Unenviable, to say the very least! The use of a red alarm to cast some glow on the left side of the shot might have been done to suggest that the characters feel exposed.

1 Umbrella Eye

It might just be a corporate logo, but Umbrella's branding is synonymous with the horror that inevitably follows in its wake. Artist EvelynVictus did this simple, yet incredibly striking pic of an eyeball featuring the iconic company logo, which might be a nod to the Resident Evil film series and its main character Alice.

The inventive use of eyeliner and surrounding grey flesh is very clever, and suggests this could be a human infected with the T-Virus who is zombifying before the viewer's very eyes. The reflection on the iris increases the realism of the shot, as well. Subtle, yet frightening.
