You’ve almost certainly heard of Wordle, the word guessing game that took the world by storm earlier this year. But you might not have heard of Heardle, the music-based Wordle clone where you try to guess the song based on a lengthening edit of the track. You have six guesses and up to 16 seconds, with a new song to guess each day.The problem with Heardle is there are a lot of songs, and the only clue you get with each unsuccessful guess is more of that song. With Wordle, you at least get told which letters are right and which letters are wrong, so you can eventually guess the right answer. Heardle doesn’t provide you with those clues, so if you don’t know the song, you’re kinda screwed.What would make Heardle better is if the game confined itself to certain genres. For example, video game music. That’s what a Sonic fan did with Sonic Heardle, a Heardle clone that limits itself to just songs from Sonic the Hedgehog games. It’s all the same rules, with six tries and up to 16 seconds of the song to guess, but by keeping itself to just Sonic games, it’s a lot easier. Unless the song is Green Hill Zone, then you’ll have to choose from a dozen different versions.
Now we have another Heardle clone, this time for the Resident Evil series. Twitter user @AestheticGamer1 is a self-proclaimed horror enthusiast and Resident Evil fan. So naturally, he decided it would be a good idea to create Resident Evil Heardle.
As with Sonic Heardle, the idea is to guess the song from what Resident Evil game. This one might be a little tougher than Sonic since a lot of the Resident Evil series is just spooky ambiance designed to get lost in the terror of fending off hordes of zombies. But true fans of the series will remember which soundscape provided the backdrop for their desperate fight against Umbrella's abominations.
Resident Evil Heardle currently has over 500 songs to guess, but that’ll soon jump to over 1000 songs. Resident Evil Heardle resets at midnight PST, so you can now guess both a new Sonic and Resident Evil song every day.
