While everyone's jaws dropped with the reveal of Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village, she's far from the only massive Resident Evil character that we've seen over the years. How many times were you spooked by Mr. X's thunderous footsteps or shaken by the sound of a nearby Nemesis?

Throughout its nearly three-decade run, the Resident Evil games have punished players with some tall virus beings. It's perhaps time to take a look at the largest characters featured in the series thus far. Whether they're player characters or engaging enemies, one thing is for sure: these characters ate their greens growing up.

Updated March 26, 2023 by Dennis Moiseyev: Showcasing immensely tall characters that you must fend off is a signature aesthetic of the Resident Evil games, and Resident Evil 4 certainly makes up for a lot of them. With the Remake making its way into your hands, this list has been updated with some more new characters and images that also highlight the iconic creatures from Resident Evil 4.

15 Leon S. Kennedy: 5 Feet 11 Inches

Leon Kennedy holding a large knife in the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

While he may not be one of the original members of S.T.A.R.S., Leon more than earned his keep as a formidable soldier when he fought through a Spanish village full of parasite-infested cultists and cleared the RCPD of zombies. Measuring 5' 11", Leon is one of the taller player characters from the Resident Evil series, matching up with Ethan Winters' height.

Appearing even beyond the games in the CG animated films, Leon is a beloved character of the series that throws some excellent roundhouse kicks and is not short on delivering memorable and hilarious lines of dialogue. And not to mention, he can also parry scythes and chainsaws with his knife in combat.

14 Morpheus D. Duvall: 6 Feet

Bruce looking up with his gun pointed at the eerie TG Virus transformation of Morpheus D. Duvall.

One of the few good things from the poorly-received Resident Evil: Dead Aim was this character right here. A terrifying researcher turned bio-terrorist who injected himself with a peculiar mixture of viruses, which resulted in him transforming into this grayish-pale monstrous being with exposed flesh. However, he still retained his original height of six feet.

Morpheus D. Duvall carried out experiments with a new hybrid T and G Virus aboard an Umbrella cruise ship known as the Spencer Rain. Injecting himself with this altered strain also gave him electromagnetic powers, sending electrical sparks emanating all throughout his body. Duvall's final form is a haunting giant blob that erases all semblance of his former self.

13 Chris Redfield: 6 Feet 1 Inch

A screenshot of Chris Redfield standing in Ethan's home, as seen in the Resident Evil 8 teasers and trailers.

Slightly taller than Leon is protagonist Chris Redfield, brother to Claire Redfield and a playable character from the earliest 1996 Resident Evil game to the eighth installment, Resident Evil Village. Chris is one of the original members of the S.T.A.R.S. squadron that began their mission with the investigation of the Spencer Mansion and has many glorious moments throughout the series.

He truly shines in the campaign of Resident Evil 5, where he's partnered with Sheva Alomar in West Africa. With every installment that Chris is a part of, he proves he's a strong leader and an expert in combat who can also pull off some ridiculous outfits in action.

12 Jack Baker: 6 Feet 2 Inches

Jack wielding an axe, shirtless, in the garage of his home and coming toward Ethan in Resident Evil Biohazard.

The patriarch of the Baker family may not be the tallest character in the series, yet what he lacks in height, he more than makes up for in intimidation factor. Jack is a burly, nigh-indestructible monster who will terrorize you throughout the gameplay of Resident Evil 7. What makes him even scarier is that the game is played from a first-person perspective, which means his size is even more evident.

You especially get a pretty claustrophobic feel for his height as he chases you around the narrow corridors of his home and bursts through walls with his giant axe like he's channeling his inner "Here's Johnny." As if his strength and regeneration abilities weren't enough, in his final form, Jack becomes around 18 feet tall.

11 Albert Wesker: 6 Feet 3 Inches

Albert Wesker placing his hands on a railing from high above and staring down menacingly in Resident Evil 5.

Two inches taller than Chris, recurring antagonist Albert Wesker was the lead officer in charge of the Spencer Mansion operation executed in the first Resident Evil. That is until the plot twist where Wesker was secretly an operative for Umbrella the entire time and betrayed Chris and the rest of the squad. His unique features include the slick leather coat and the iconic black sunglasses.

Due to the prototype virus coursing through his system, courtesy of William Birkin, Wesker gains enhanced superhuman abilities like speed, strength, and regeneration. And in the end, none of these were still a match for his demise at the hands of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar.

10 Jake Muller: 6 Feet 3 Inches

Sherry Birkin holding jake back from Leon in a tense stand-off near cargo containers.

Like father, like son, Jake Muller seems to have also inherited his father's height on top of the powerful immune system against Umbrella's viruses. In Resident Evil 6, it was revealed that the new playable character, Jake, was the son of Albert Wesker, who was killed during the events of Resident Evil 5.

Jake grew up in the unstable European nation of Edonia without Wesker in his life and became a mercenary who teams up with an older Sherry Birkin, the daughter of scientist William Birkin and the main antagonist of Resident Evil 2. Together they make quite the duo, given their similar backgrounds, and Jake demonstrates he's a much better person than his father.

9 Garrador: 6 Feet 6 Inches

Leon staring at a tall Garrador walking toward him, claws fully extended, and near a jail cell in the castle.

If there's one Resident Evil game that constantly throws tall enemies at you that aren't final bosses, it's Resident Evil 4. The Garradors are tall specimens of the Plagas parasitic infection, whose name literally translates to the incredibly long sharp claws they come equipped with on either hand. Another notable feature is that their eyes have been sewn shut.

The loss of sight and attacking only based on the noise you make adds a heightened sense of danger and suspense when fighting these large enemies. Clad in chain armor and leather accessories, the exposed skin on the Garradors opens a weak spot with the Plaga parasite located along their back.

8 Bitores Mendez: 6 Feet 8 Inches

Leon stabbing the shoulder of Village Chief Bitores Mendez and holding it in before getting smacked away in the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Bitores Mendez, aka "the Village Chief," is an early-game antagonist in Resident Evil 4. And wow, as a former Catholic priest that now serves the teachings of the Plagas-worshipping Los Iluminados, he sure gives players a baptism of fire. After throwing Leon around several times like he weighs paper thin, Bitores decides to take things up a level and fights Leon in one of the game's best boss fights.

He's already a slight four inches shy of the ominous Mr. X, and the parasitic Plagas infection turns him into an even taller centipede-like monster of morphed flesh and biology that can certainly induce nightmares. His false red eye, bald head, black coat, and long black beard are some of his most notable features.

7 Mr. X: 7 Feet

Leon staring up at a fiercely tall Mr. X without his hat in the garage, before Ada runs him over with a large vehicle.

If you played the remake of Resident Evil 2, you know that the sound of Mr. X's stomps around RCPD will send a chill down your spine. The heavy footfalls of this massive hatted monster mean one thing and one thing only: impending doom. A thought even more frightening than this mighty menace approaching you is knowing he can't be defeated in this current form.

Mr. X is seven feet of pure brute force that will absolutely clobber you if he catches up to you. His imposing presence and menacing design with the leather trench coat and T-00 face effectively capture a truly terrifying look that would make you want to run for your life.

6 Nemesis: 8 Feet

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in profile standing amid rubble as embers and sparks float around his mighty presence.

Nemesis could give Mr. X a run for his money any day, standing a whole foot higher than the previous game's main monster. And the only thing scarier than Nemesis' height is the fact that he also carries a rocket launcher and shoots out a tentacle from his arm to pull you toward him. Making his debut in Resident Evil 3, this costumed t-Virus monstrosity has become one of the most iconic villains of the entire series.

Aside from the graphical update, the remake of the third game made him an even more grotesque and perilous force. You can truly see the immense difference in height as he tries to mow Jill down the hallway of her apartment complex with a concrete block. And his massive weight accomplishes a lot of tearing through walls and floors, which pretty much allows him to destroy the entire complex.

5 The Verdugos: 8 Feet 5 Inches

Resident Evil 4 Verdugo. Tall creature with red eyes and very tight skin over its bones.

Ramon Salazar is one of the most compelling villains from the Resident Evil universe, but his small stature is no match for his ghastly cloaked henchmen called The Verdugos, which are a pair of genetically engineered bodyguards whose DNA has been spliced with Plagas insect DNA. The result is a massive chitinous mess that's quite fast at charging and has a long spiky tail, like a xenomorph.

The head seems reminiscent of your typical Tyrant but is coupled with glowing orange eyes and sharp pincers that only add to their creepy design. A good way to stop these Plagas creatures that are somehow taller than Nemesis is to throw the canisters of liquid nitrogen scattered throughout the close-quarters environment.

4 The T-002 Tyrant: 8 Feet 7 Inches

Tyrant Looking at Albert Wesker from a test tube in a laboratory beneath the Spencer Mansion in Resident Evil 1.

The original Resident Evil's final boss is not only one of the series' toughest fights but is a first-generation Tyrant bioweapon that's an absolute monster, literally and metaphorically. Mutated at an impressive 8' 7", this one spells a ton of trouble for Jill and the rest of the S.T.A.R.S. team during the final moments of their stay at the Spencer Mansion.

And it was there in an underground laboratory beneath the mansion where this Umbrella Corporation beast lay dormant until unleashed upon the protagonists. A distinguishing feature of this Tyrant model is its two hearts, the larger one protruding from the outer layer of the right side of its chest that was surgically implanted.

3 Lady Dimitrescu: 9 Feet 6 Inches

A screenshot showing Lady Dimitrescu from Ethan's perspective in Resident Evil Village.

Lady Alcina Dimitrescu is the tallest of the Four Lords of the European Village that provides the setting for the eighth main entry of the Resident Evil series. Standing at 9'6", she is a towering figure dressed in white and has Freddy Kreuger claws, who roams the halls of her Castle along with her three daughters.

Like all the other Lords, she was the product of the experiment with Mother Miranda's Cadou, which failed to cure her blood disease and caused her to grow to such a height due to her constant need for blood. And during the boss fight, you see that her Cadou mutation turns her into something even more massive - a type of dragon.

2 Thanatos: 12 Feet

Thanatos charging at a character from Resident Evil Outbreak during the boss fight with only one giant arm.

When you're named after the Greek God of Death, you're guaranteed to be as mighty and formidable as one. Thanatos is one of the main antagonists from the underrated Resident Evil Outbreak and is a combination of different kinds of Tyrant bioweapons that fuse to create this 12 feet long giant.

Thanatos is a unique form of Tyrant that is missing his right arm and the left branches into an enormous gray-white claw appendage for a hand. As with the T-002 model, Thanatos also has a second heart built into a gap on the right side of his chest. One of his special moves is to bounce around the different parts of the boss arena.

1 Urias: 12 Feet

Urias standing over Ethan in the early village section with the Lycan horde behind him, large hammer weapon at the ready.

The Cadou didn't just make a giant out of Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village. The Urias brothers all became extremely large mutations mixed with Lycan DNA, the youngest taking command of the basic Lycan enemies. You can significantly see the difference in height because, from Ethan's perspective, his face matches up with Urias' waist.

Urias was formerly the Village Chief before the Cadou transformed him into a giant hammer-wielding overgrown-haired monster. He exhibits a powerful booming roar and spins his hammer when attacking, while also frequently making the ground shake with his impromptu violent jumps.
