Interestingly, not only the game has a solid connection with this corporation, but many people have that eagerness to learn more about the history, expansion, research projects, and decline of the Umbrella Corporation.

10 The Beginning

Umbrella Corporation is basically a British multinational group of companies that has multiple businesses in various industries such as healthcare, tourism, cosmetics, and chemicals, etc. Soon after the launch of its pharmaceutical subsidiary, Umbrella started focusing on developing biological weaponry for military purposes.

They did that by gathering the remains of deadly viruses and claimed that they are doing research for making vaccines for those viruses. Interestingly, the core purpose of Umbrella Corporation was to cover up the illegal activities.

9 The Core Objective

The founders of the Umbrella Corporation believed that their only objective was to do the funding of the Wesker project.

This project was about giving birth to a new generation of superhumans who were supposed to be virally enhanced creatures that can lead the human civilization while obeying the founders of Umbrella Corporation as their Gods. In short, Umbrella focused on eugenics instead of industrial reputation.

8 Founders, Yet Virologists

Umbrella Corporation initially came into being in 1966 when three university classmates got together to research on mutagenic viral infection. These three virologists include Dr. Oswell E. Spencer, Dr. Edward Ashford, and Dr. James Marcus. They were able to launch t-Virus Project which expanded massively under the supervision of Dr. William Birkin.

With this project, they found that it is far beyond just a deadly weapon as its mutagenic characteristics were able to keep the infected alive but in an unstable condition.

7 Internal Issues

Soon after the increasing popularity of the Umbrella Corporation, its founding members started having issues between them. Dr. Ashford was the first one to become the victim of t-Virus which most believe that it was planned by Dr. Spencer.

Although the children of Dr. Edward and Dr. Ashford took charge of the administrative tasks at Umbrella, the company looked unstable after the deaths of its founders.

6 Need Of Umbrella Europe

The European chapter of Umbrella Corporation came into being during the 1980s when Umbrella USA seemed totally failed. Umbrella Europe was meant to overcome the failure of the Umbrella USA by planning to create a parasite that can be used as a replacement to the affected brain from t-Virus.

This brain was supposed to be preventing brain damage and they thought to integrate it with the existing t-Virus in 1998 while claiming it as a big achievement.

5 The Fall Of Soviet Union

With the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, the Umbrella Corporation expanded massively in terms of its paramilitary organizations which include the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service, Umbrella Security Service, and the Umbrella Intelligence Division.

This led them to achieve more success in 1998 when they acquired several machines guns, C-130 Hercules water landing planes, and other heavy weapons. During this time, the Umbrella Corporation came to know about the abandoning of Umbrella research programs by the US government and starting their own manufacturing project for bioweapons.

4 The Failure

The actual failure of the Umbrella Corporation seemed to happen in May 1998 when a mysterious incident happened at Arklay Laboratory. Cerberus B.O.W.s ran away from the lab and found killing each other like zombies.

However, the fall of the Umbrella Corporation was mainly due to two reasons; one is industrial espionage and the other one is internal destabilization. The core members of the organization like Dr. Wesker and Dr. William Birkin started also left because of internal politics.

3 The Raccoon City

When the Umbrella Corporation got to know about the hospital cases related to a cannibal disease and its spread through contaminated water, they quickly ordered to evacuate the civilians from the Raccoon City with the help of the US Army.

It was also proposed by one of the American civil servants to destroy the whole city with the fuel-air bomb. On October 1, it was decided by the President of the National Security Council to bomb the entire city.

2 The Decline

The Umbrella Corporation could not survive after the collapse of Raccoon City. The African facility of Umbrella led by Dr. Spencer was shut down in November to avoid the discovery of Progenitor Virus.

Later, Umbrella's facility on Sheena Island was also destroyed after knowing the outbreak of illegal activities happening inside. Similarly, the training camp on Rockfort Island was also wiped out and the Umbrella Corporation started to lose control.

1 End Of An Era

Two former employees of the Umbrella Corporation kept testifying against the court about the innocence of the organization and the involvement of the US government in the incident that led to the destruction of the Racoon City.

In 2003, however, Dr. Wesker provided Umbrella's archives to the court which proved that the Umbrella was the actual culprit. After this, the court not only declared Umbrella Pharmaceuticals bankrupt but also the entire Umbrella Corporation.
