New footage of Resident Evil Village has been shown at the PS5 Showcase event and it has given fans a closer look at the new enemies in the game.

Resident Evil Village was announced during the PS5 reveal event over the summer. The game follows the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, as Ethan is seemingly kidnapped by Chris Redfield from the previous entries in the series. Ethan is trapped in a village in the middle of nowhere, and he has seemingly been left in Europe to die.

A second trailer for Resident Evil Village was shown during the PS5 Showcase event, and it has given us a closer look at the enemies in the game, which were only shown in brief flashes in the first trailer.

In the original trailer, the brief shot of the enemies made them look like yetis or apes that lived in cold climates. The new trailer has confirmed that they are humans, as they can be seen wearing clothes and wielding primitive weapons. There is also a massive enemy wielding a hammer who appears to be wearing a mask. Ethan isn't shown battling the enemies, so we're unsure of how combat-focused the game will be.

It appears that the series is going the Resident Evil 4/7 route of using smarter and more agile monsters, which is perfect for ramping up the tension. The Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes had enemies that were frightening because of their durability and the bursts of speed that let them lunge at the player. The more animalistic foes remind us of the Plaga from Resident Evil 4, as does the village setting. If Resident Evil Village is going all-in with the Resident Evil 4 comparisons, then we're there on day one, as it's one of the greatest video games of all time, and a new title in the same mold has the potential to be as equally impressive.
