Tomonori Takano, Resident Evil Village's art director, told IGN that Morticia Addams inspired the tall and beloved Lady Dimitrescu from the upcoming Resident Evil village - that staggering 10ft behemoth.

"In the early stages of planning, we decided on going with [a] castle and vampires motifs, he told IGN, "However, we did not want to be constrained by how vampires have been portrayed in various forms of popular entertainment."

The franchise has branched out from zombies in the past, so it's no surprise that they are delving beyond the undead brain-eaters that kickstarted it all back in the first game. Bosses have never been zombies, after all, they were typically big animals or mutated monstrosities or even enlarged, beefier humans.

As for the uncultured who are unaware of who Morticia Addams is, she is one of the characters from the Addams Family television and films created by cartoonist Charles Addams. She herself was based on his wife Barbara Jean Day, so Lady Dimitrescu is an inspired grandaughter.

She herself is very vampiric but definitely more gothic in design, and so drawing from her is a huge step into creating a unique depiction of vampires unlike that of many other video-games, films, and television properties. It's certainly in-line with Resident Evil's history of taking iconic mythological monsters and giving them their own twist. Just look at Resident Evil 4's villager "zombies" infected by Las Plagas.

After all, like with 7, Village is a step back into scaring people as Takano says, "We analyzed the characters and elements in the Resident Evil series so far to see if they were truly scary or if they had become so conventional that they lost their effectiveness in scaring players. [Jun Takeuchi said that] if we want people to be scared, we need to think beyond the stereotypical zombies."
