Resident Evil: Village continues the trend started with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard of mainline Resident Evil games returning to their roots. It is just as scary as the PS1 trilogy while also taking some cues from Resident Evil 4.

Though the eighth mainline entry is short, it is packed with details, secrets, and easter eggs you can easily miss if you aren't observant enough. One cannot be faulted for not noticing any of the eight entries below. After all, the game is so scary many are probably playing with their hands over their face, peaking through their fingers. These all make us appreciate the attention to detail Capcom packed into Resident Evil: Village.

Updated On July 22nd, 2021, By Jason Wojnar: At E3 2021 Capcom announced Resident Evil DLC. Unfortunately, the company gave no information other than its existence. Whatever will come is still a mystery. Will it be a story taking place in the game's village or will it continue off the events of the ending? Whatever the case, we're excited for more Resident Evil content coming in the near future. Until the DLC comes out, bide your time by looking at some of these hidden tidbits about the main game.

8 The Duke References The Merchant From Resident Evil 4

Duke resident evil village

The Duke is a good friend throughout the journey, and not just because he sells you items and weapons. He also gives Ethan Winters tips throughout the campaign. When entering his shop he'll say "what're you buyin'" and then reminisce about how it is something a friend of his says.

This is a clear reference to the merchant from Resident Evil 4. He is iconic for the small set of lines he repeats. Is this a small nod or does it hint at a deeper connection between the two characters?

7 You Don't Lose Upgrades If You Sell Weapons

If you only played through Resident Evil: Village once, you probably had no chance to notice this little gameplay detail. Sometimes you have to sell weapons to make space for more powerful arms. Fortunately, you do not lose the upgrades once you trade them in for some money.

You can buy the weapons back if you want to and then they keep the upgrades. The weapons generally only become progressively better and better, so you really have no reason to go back to old ones.

6 Regina Rosie Wine

RE Village Regina Rosie Wine Bottles

There are a bunch of small secrets in Ethan and Mia's house during the beginning of the game. The wine they drink is called Regina Rosie. This is an obvious nod towards Regina, the protagonist from Dino Crisis.

As cute as this nod is, fans would much rather have a remake or sequel rather than a small easter egg. At least it lets us know Capcom has not completely forgotten the series. The first Dino Crisis plays similarly to the classic Resident Evil games and was directed by Shinji Mikami, while the sequel is more action-packed.

5 The Duke Reacts To Attacks

The Duke is essentially invisible. Players who tried to test the Duke's durability found this out. If you throw explosives at the trader or shoot him with a grenade launcher, he reacts as if he is tickled. Thankfully he is not bitter at Ethan for the attacks.

Merchants in other games do not take kindly to attacks. Spelunky, for example, is notable for its particularly brutal merchants. In that roguelike, merchants come after you even if you accidentally hurt them.

4 The Figure At The End Of The Game

The last cutscene has a surprising time jump. It showcases Ethan Winters' daughter visiting her father's grave. In the end, she drives off with a security escort. In the distance of the final shot, you can see a mysterious figure approach the vehicle.

It is hard to make out who it is, but upon closer inspection, it appears to be Ethan Winter. Even though he clearly dies in the game, the power of the Mold could keep his consciousness alive. Hopefully, we'll find out more in the future.

3 Farm The Birdcages

Like any good survival horror game, resource management is the main way to stay alive. You find yourself scrounging the environment for supplies. It will definitely help to know you can shoot down the birdcages often seen hanging from trees.

They don't exactly point themselves out, so you can easily miss them. Just keep your eyes peeled while walking through the woods and you'll see plenty of them. Shoot them for ammo, health, or other resources. Hidden items like this are just what you need to make certain battles a little easier.

2 Heisenberg Knows About The Time Chris Redfield Punched A Boulder

During the Heisenberg boss fight, Chris Redfield blows up the enemy's factory. After this, Heisenberg calls Chris a "Boulder Punching (expletive)". This is in reference to the time when Chris literally punched a boulder out of the way during the last boss fight of Resident Evil 5.

It is a ridiculous moment, but it fits right in with Resident Evil, especially during the time. Chris does not do anything nearly as physically strenuous in Resident Evil Village.

1 Cut Content In The Concept Art

ada wong RE 8 concept art

Resident Evil Village comes with a ton of concept art, something you don't see in every major release. Even more surprising, the art shows plenty of ideas that did not make it into the final version. Notable pieces of art include a planned appearance by Ada Wong.

Additionally, Heisenberg was a dramatically different character and his whole family was involved in the narrative. It is hard to say if the game would have been better or worse with these original ideas. With the latter, we understand the desire to simplify the narrative by cutting out numerous new characters. When it comes to Ada, we would have loved to have her return, but the developer could not find a rational
