A new video comparing different versions of Resident Evil Village has revealed that the game will load from menu to gameplay in just two seconds.

The video in question was uploaded on April 20th by Digital Foundry and showcases the differences between the PS5 version of Resident Evil Village and previous-gen versions. One of the more impressive parts of the video shows Resident Evil Village loading up in a ridiculously short two seconds compared to the PS4 Pro and PS4 versions which both load in a disappointingly long 30 seconds.

The video also clarifies a lot of the confusion that's been seen over the details Capcom recently released on the game's performance on different systems and whether ray tracing affects said performance. It was recently revealed by Capcom that Resident Evil Village will only run at 45fps in 4K if the player has ray tracing enabled on PS5.

According to Digital Foundry, the game actually has an unlocked frame rate and will reach 60fps most of the time with occasional dip. Without ray tracing, Resident Evil Village is locked at 60fps no matter the graphical intensity. It's worth noting that the footage in the Digital Foundry video is captured from the recently released demo and that it's impossible to find out whether the performance stays the same across the full game.

Resident Evil Village is one of the first high-profile titles to attempt to fully make use of next-gen hardware, and from the previews, it seems like it's very successful in doing so. Even without ray tracing, it looks like the game will run flawlessly and that these ludicrously fast loading times are going to become more of a permanent feature as developers start getting used to the new hardware.

Resident Evil Village is almost upon us and will be hitting store shelves on May 7th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. If you missed the demo you can read our preview of the game here, but be sure to keep an eye on TheGamer for a full review closer to release.
