Riot is working on a League of Legends MMO. We know this thanks to job ads on Riot’s recruitment site confirming that it’s working on an MMO, as well as a tweet from former vice president of IP and now executive producer Greg Street essentially announcing the game back in late 2020.

"My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need," said Street. "Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create."

No official details have ever been confirmed by Riot, such as a name or a release date, and they might never come. Street recently provided an update on the League of Legends MMO that he’s producing, and he admitted that there’s “no guarantee” that it’ll ever see the light of day.

"There is no guarantee this game will ship,” admitted Street on Twitter. "We are optimistic, but you just never know until it does. However assuming it does, this will be the fourth major franchise I have worked on (AoE, WoW, LoL), and likely the last. And I am very okay with that. It will be a good final act."

Saying things like this game might never ship is bound to make people nervous, so besides revealing his potential retirement, Street also gave nervous fans an update on the game’s development.

"Things are going super well," Street clarified. "I am just being honest that Riot’s game standards are high and so are the expectations of players. We won’t ship a disappointing game."

So far, Riot has never shipped a disappointment. Case in point is League of Legends: Wild Rift, which recently added a new game mode and a limited-time event in the latest update. Strangely enough, the new update adds pajama skins for Guardian Lux and Ezreal, as well as the fast asleep emote. Guess Riot is still feeling a bit lagged from the switch to daylight savings time.
