Riot wants to add a replay system to VALORANT so that players can review their strats and also so they can turn them into shareable gifs.

In competitive games, replay is essential. It lets you review the last few moments of gameplay to figure out what you did wrong, what you did right, and what you should change for next time. It lets you figure out how your opponent outsmarted you and, depending on how it's implemented, replays can also reveal potential cheaters.

Also, you can take really good replays and turn them into memes for social media.

Riot has thought of all of this, and that’s why VALORANT is definitely getting a replay system. We just don’t know exactly when.

In the most recent edition of Ask VALORANT, the bi-weekly question and answer session with VALORANT’s devs, one fan asked specifically about the game’s lack of a replay system and when that might be corrected.

"This is something that we're interested in exploring soon,” said Senior Producer Steven Eldredge. “Whether it's to study previous matches for tactical advantages or to create spicy memes, we know that players will find a wide range of interesting uses for a system like this."

One suspects that “spicy memes” might turn out to be the main reason, but whatever works.

Of course, that wasn't the only question asked of Riot. One asked if VALORANT would be getting a League of Legends-style gifting system, and the answer was "yes" to that one as well. Unfortunately, we also don't know when exactly, but the tentative date is near the end of 2020.

Map selection mode, on the other hand, is definitely not coming to VALORANT--at least, not anytime soon. When asked if there would be a specific map queue, Senior Producer Ian Fielding gave a resounding no on that one, noting that they didn't want to dilute the matchmaking pools too much and cause a spike in queue times.

In other VALORANT news, hackers are finding Riot to be a great place to land a job so long as they can access the game’s servers. Food for thought.
