You might remember Acrid from the first game, but unlocking him in Risk of Rain 2 is a brand new challenge.

Back again in Risk of Rain 2, Acrid is arguably even more fun than he was in the first game. He's a literal beast, spitting acid and crushing otherwise damage spongy enemies like they're nothing. Of course you're going to want him on your roster of characters, but the game is arguably at its most vague in telling you how to unlock him. The challenge you need to complete is simply "... To be Left Alone." If that wasn't unclear enough, the description reads, "Stabilize the Cell in the Void Fields."

Before starting a run and heading to the Void Fields, know that this is not going to be an easy challenge, so there's no harm in playing on the lowest difficulty if you're main focus is just unlocking Acrid.

Unlocking Acrid In Risk of Rain 2

The Void Fields

If you haven't been there before, you can reach the Void Fields via the Bazaar Between Time. If you don't know how to reach the bazaar, in short you need to use a Lunar Coin on a Newt Shrine to open up a portal that will take you there. From the Bazaar, you will need to make some careful jumps downward onto metal beams below your starting position. Keep dropping one beam at a time until you spot a yellowish smoke coming out of an opening. Head in there, then enter the portal waiting for you.

Now that you've reached the Void Fields, things are about to get serious. As the description hinted at, you need to start searching the area for Void Cells. You will know them by the purple lights shooting out from them into the sky. Once you find and activate the first one, of nine total you'll need to find, everything will kick off.

Right off the bat, moving too far away from a Void Cell will chip away your health, so your movement is limited as it is charging. Naturally, this is where enemies will spawn, but your job is just to survive. The cell will charge regardless of anything else, so kill as much or as little is necessary to stay alive.

Once the first cell is done charging three things will happen. First you get an item, and second the next cell will appear. Third, and most important, your little safe area around the first cell will vanish, meaning you'll start taking damage immediately. Get yourself to the next cell as fast as possible to keep from losing too much health, then repeat the same process once again. Thankfully, time doesn't move forward in the Void Fields, and the next cell isn't automatically activated, so you have plenty of time to heal up before spawning the next wave.

Each time you repeat this process, up until the ninth and final time, a wider variety of enemies has a chance to spawn to attack you while the cell charges. Not only that, but they will also get progressively stronger buffs, ending with a Legendary buff for your final wave.

If you can make it through that final wave, the area will stop trying to kill you, and Acrid will be unlocked.
