There are plenty of challenges available in Risk of Rain 2, with some being more difficult than others. Every challenge in the game has an associated item that can be unlocked once the challenge has been completed. One of the more difficult challenges to complete is The Long Road.

This challenge requires you to complete 20 stages in a single run, which can be a daunting task. In this guide, we are going to go over how to complete this challenge as well as the item that will unlock upon completion.

Strategies For Completing The Long Road

Going through 20 stages can take a long time, but fortunately, there are a few strategies. Let's take a look at some of the best ways to complete this challenge below.

A simple strategy to complete this challenge is to spend the first few levels collecting items to become powerful. This will take a while, but it's best to be prepared. With enough items stacked, you can then proceed to speed through every other stage. After the first five or so stages, you may become overpowered. This will allow you to enter a new stage and immediately make your way to the teleporter.

This challenge can be completed with any survivor, but be sure to pick someone that you are confident playing. Completing The Long Road challenge isn't a great time to try out new characters.

Drizzle Difficulty

Playing on a higher difficulty can be rewarding, but it may cause you to die prematurely. If you aren't too confident in your ability to survive for a long time, try playing with the Drizzle difficulty. Although this is an 'easy' mode, it will still become more difficult over time.

Drizzle mode allows you successfully gather items in the beginning stages without dying quickly. The challenge is not affected by the difficulty you choose, so playing on Drizzle will increase your chances of getting through all 20 stages.

Playing With Artifacts

Artifacts are unique items that create restraints, modifiers, additional challenges, or benefits on your run. Some of these artifacts can hinder your ability to complete this challenge, but a few may work in your favor. Below, you can find artifacts that may be helpful to complete The Long Road.

  • Artifact of Command: Choose your items. This will allow you to create a powerful build without being at the RNG's mercy.
  • Artifact of Sacrifice: Monsters drop items on death, but chests no longer spawn. This will prevent you from spending valuable time searching the map for treasure chests.

To complete this challenge, there are a few different items that we recommend having. Items in Risk of Rain are generally random. However, if you have the Artifact of Command activated, try to gather these items.

  • Any Speed/Movement Boosting Item: These will help you move around the map quickly.
    • Energy Drink: increase sprinting speed.
    • Red Whip: boosts speed out of combat.
    • Milky Chrysalis: equipment that enables flight for 15 seconds.
    • Paul's Goat Hoof: increase movement speed.
    • Hopoo Feather: gain an extra jump.
  • Shield/Armor Granting Items: Although this is self-explanatory, it’s always best to have items that help you take less damage.
    • Personal Shield Generator: gain a shield equal to 8 percent of your maximum health.
    • Tougher Times: 15 percent chance to block incoming damage.
    • Repulsion Armor Plate: reduces all incoming damage by 5.
    • Topaz Brooch: gain temporary barrier on kill, equivalent to 15 health.
  • Dio's Best Friend: gain an extra life, consumed upon death.
  • Shaped Glass: doubles damage dealt, but you have half your health.
    • This item is great, but try to prioritize it later on during a run, when you have enough health to spare.
  • Infusion: permanently increase health by 1 for each enemy killed (up to 100 health can be gained).

Item Unlocked: 57 Leaf Clover

57 leaf clover item description page

Upon completing The Long Road, you will unlock the 57 Leaf Clover. This is a legendary item that will increase your overall luck.

The 57 Leaf Clover applies to items that have a chance to provide a certain effect. For example, the Stun Grenade item will give you a five percent chance to stun enemies on hit for two seconds. Five percent isn’t that big, but the 57 Leaf Clover will essentially give this item a second chance to act if it doesn’t succeed the first time.

There are a lot of items in the game that rely on chance, which makes the 57 Leaf Clover an incredibly helpful item. This item will affect everything with random effects except for Tougher Times. Tougher Times has a chance to block hits at the moment they connect, so rerolling for a better outcome wouldn’t be beneficial to you.

The Lunar item, Purity, will also decrease the benefits from the 57 Leaf Clover. Purity will reduce your skill cooldowns by two, at the cost of making you unlucky. This item is basically the antithesis of the clover, so try not to have both at the same time.

That's all there is to completing The Long Road! This challenge can take a while, so be sure you have enough time set aside to go through 20 stages.
