There are a ton of items available in Risk Of Rain 2. As such, it can be hard to remember what items are the best ones to go for, especially newer players to the game. This is especially true when the Artifact Of Command is active since it allows you to choose your items.

All items in the game can be stacked. Stacking items increases the likelihood of an item's effect to trigger or its power boost to be increased. Some items are worth stacking, while others don't need more than a few. Stacking items is the key to making an overpowered character on any playthrough.

Updated November 27, 2022 by Amanda Hurych: With the release of the Survivors of the Void expansion, there were a couple of new items added to Risk of Rain 2's collection that are just incredible to stack. Void Items are "corrupted" versions of items we know and love, and they have the ability to convert any stacks you have of their regular counterparts. Bring on the chaos!

15 Voidsent Flame

Void portal and Will o Wisp item from Risk of Rain 2

Voidsent Flame is the corrupted counterpart to the Will-o-the-Wisp item. Where the Wisp bursts enemies into explosive flames as soon as you kill them, its corrupted self makes full-health enemies that you just attack catch on fire. While both do damage to enemies near your target, the visual look of the Voidsent Flames spurting onto previously hearty monsters is a delight.

Plus, you don't have to kill your enemies to set off a chain reaction of fiery explosions. Instead, all you have to do is swipe at the healthy ones and BOOM! You get a practically instant cascade of fire. Not to bash on the Wisp too much, but Voidsent Flame is a godsend sort of item.

14 Weeping Fungus

Risk of Rain 2 - Bustling Fungus crossed out - Weeping Fungus

If you're playing the Engineer and you have your sedentary little turrets, then Bustling Fungus is great. But if you're playing as any other character, then you know that moving is key to survival in Risk of Rain 2. As a matter of fact, sprinting is paramount to survival. Enter the Weeping Fungus.

Instead of giving you a healing circle when you've been standing still like good old Bungus, Weeping Fungus heals you while you're sprinting. That's right, folks. You can now run away from danger in Risk of Rain 2 and get healed while you're doing it. Looks like "Wungus" is the new champion healing item in town.

13 Red Whip

Nothing speeds up your character like oodles and caboodles of Red Whip. It gives you a mega speed boost with every stack as long as you haven't attacked anything in five seconds. That might seem like a major hindrance, but it's invaluable with how incredibly fast you end up moving once you get going.

Your character's animated movement cycle looks like a whirlwind after a few Red Whips. You'll be able to flee skirmishes successfully faster than the Flash circling around the globe. Stacks of Red Whip gives you the ability to gain some much-needed breathing room from boss fights when you really need it.

12 Gasoline

risk of rain 2 wisps with gasoline

Gasoline is a great way to deal out damage to large crowds of enemies. When in your inventory, Gasoline ignites all enemies within a 12-meter range, dealing 150 percent base damage to them. With how close enemies can get to each other, Gasoline is a solid way to deal out spread damage.

With each stack of Gasoline, four meters are added to its radius, the burn damage is boosted by 75%. Thanks to this, Gasoline can very quickly become quite devastating, taking out giant hordes in seconds when it has a high stack.

11 Lens Maker's Glasses

Risk-Of-Rain-2-Lens-Makers-Glasses-1

The Lens-Maker Glasses were featured in the original Risk Of Rain and returned for the sequel with the same effect. It will give attacks a ten percent chance to critical strike, which deals out double damage to those hit by it.

RELATED: Risk Of Rain 2: Secrets You Likely Missed

The Lens-Maker Glasses is one of the best items in the game and should be stacked early on. However, it's important to note that it maxes out at a stack of ten, as you will reach a 100 percent chance to critical strike. With that, it effectively makes you deal double damage for the rest of the run.

10 Paul's Goat Hoof

risk of rain 2 solider on pod with goat hoof

Paul's Goat Hoof is the best item to use when you want to boost up your speed. It will give you an increased movement speed of 14 percent, with an additional 14 percent with each stack of it. By having a small amount of Paul's Goat Hooves, you can drastically boost up your movement.

When you get to the double digits, you can gain insane speeds that will easily allow you to swerve in and out of combat. With how dangerous higher levels can be, this ability is not to be under-appreciated.

9 Harvester's Scythe

risk of rain 2 fighting pot spider and harvesters scythe

The Harvester's Scythe is a great item to stack, as it combines healing with critical hits. It will give you a five percent critical hit chance, and whenever a critical hit procs you will heal eight health. With each stack of a Harvester's Scythe, you gain an extra four health.

While the critical hit chance never rises in the stack, when combined with items like the Lens-Maker's Glasses, you can get to the point where you're guaranteed to heal on every hit. Dealing out high amounts of damage and healing from it is very powerful, and flourishes in aggro builds.

8 Tougher Times

risk of rain 2 tougher times in inventory

Tougher Times is one of the best defensive items in the game, all while being a common rarity. The item will give you a fifteen percent chance of negating all damage. Each stack of the item will give you 15 extra percent.

RELATED: Games To Play If You Love Risk Of Rain 2

The Tougher Times at higher stacks will be very unlikely to not prevent damage. With as little as seven stacks, the Tougher Time gives you about a fifty percent chance, and that only gets better the more you have. Being able to prevent a potentially lethal attack is something every run needs, so going for stacks of Tougher Times is fantastic.

7 Fuel Cell

risk of rain 2 fuel cell in inventory

Equipment is some of the best ways to deal out massive amounts of damage in a short period of time. Items like the Sawmerang and Disposable Missile Launcher are devastating on elites and bosses alike, so having extra charges of them is fantastic.

That's exactly why the Fuel Cell is so great to stack. Each stack of the Fuel Cell will give you an extra equipment charge. In addition, it also lowers your equipment cooldown by fifteen percent for each stack. When you have a lot in the stack, you'll almost always have your equipment available for use.

6 Hopoo Feather

Risk of Rain 2 Hopoo Feather

The Hopoo Feather has a very simple, but remarkably useful impact — picking one up gives you a double jump, increasing your aerial maneuverability considerably. However, the real kicker is in stacking it: each feather you stack gives you another jump, and there's no upper limit.

Ostensibly, stacking enough of them could ensure that your feet never touch the ground and you never find yourself vulnerable to ground-based melee attackers.

5 Backup Magazine

Risk of Rain 2 Backup Magazine

The Backup Magazine flatly adds an additional charge to your chosen character's secondary (M2) skill. This can vary in usefulness, but when attached to some character's it is flatly overpowered.

The Huntress is perhaps the most demonstrative of this, as stacking additional charges of her Glaive secondary can turn her into a horde-devastating wonder woman. Snagging them with the Mercenary enables him to kick out his powerhouse attack (either Whirlwind or Rising Thunder) with impunity — just make sure to grab some Soldier's Syringes to ensure you're taking advantage of the Expose debuff as often as possible.

4 Crowbar

risk of rain 2 crowbar in purchase capsule

The Crowbar is one of the best items to give you a straightforward damage boost. When equipped, you'll deal out an extra 75 percent damage to all enemies above 90 percent health. Each stack of a Crowbar will add on 75 percent damage as well.

It will also double critical strike multipliers, making Crowbars one of the most damaging items in the game. With only two stacks of a Crowbar, you'll do more damage than getting one critical hit without it. Since it only works on enemies above 90 percent health, it works best with characters that deal out single-hit attacks.

3 Soldier's Syringe

risk of rain 2 soldier syringe in inventory

The Soldier's Syringe is one of the best ways to increase your damage output. It will increase your attack speed by fifteen percent, with an extra fifteen each stack. By increasing your rate of fire, you'll be able to do more damage per second.

RELATED: Risk Of Rain 2: The Hardest Challenges And How To Beat Them

Since the increase doesn't cap, the Soldier's Syringe can make you shoot out multiple attacks in just one second. Characters with a slower rate of fire like the Huntress get a much greater boost, as they'll be able to shoot as fast as characters with automatic fires.

2 Sticky Bomb

risk of rain 2 first level with sticky bomb

The Sticky Bomb allows you to boost up your damage output by giving you an extra way to add splash damage. It will give you a five percent chance to attach a sticky bomb to an enemy, which causes 180 percent damage when it explodes. Each stack of the Sticky Bomb increases the likelihood of it triggering by five percent.

With how much the Sticky Bomb does, stacking it to ensure it always goes off is a fantastic strategy. The explosion will also affect enemies near the blast, allowing for massive damage output, especially when multiple enemies get attached by one.

1 57 Leaf Clover

risk of rain 2 57 leaf clover in inventory

The 57 Leaf Clover is arguably the best item in the entire game. When in your inventory, every effect that's triggered from an item you have is triggered an extra time if the original failed. You will get an extra roll for each stack of the 57 Leaf Clover you have.

By stacking up on the 57 Leaf Clover, you essentially guarantee that your effects will always trigger. The only item it won't affect is the Tougher Times. The 57 Leaf Clover makes every other item you have much more powerful and is the best Legendary item in the game.
