Roblox Mobile Has Stacked Up Over $1 Billion

The mobile version of the popular MMO Roblox has reportedly made over $1 billion in revenue.

The mobile-friendly version of the popular MMO Roblox has just surpassed $1 billion in lifetime revenue, according to a report from Sensor Tower.

A recent Sensor Tower Store Intelligence report estimates that the mobile version of the eponymous game from Roblox Corporations, which was launched in 2012, has accrued $435 million in revenue in just 2019, which is about 30% more than its total revenue from 2018. It broke additional records this year by hitting $50 million in monthly revenue in August 2019 alone. To compare past earnings, the site only grossed $46 million in the entire year of 2016.

Roblox Mobile is a free-to-play MMO that currently holds an impressive number of 290 million downloads from its available platforms on the App Store and Google Play. It is estimated that $677 million of its revenue (or 67%) has come from the United States, while $89 million (9%) comes from Great Britain. The Sensor Tower report also notes that 75% of the game's downloads come from Google Play, though found that Apple users are more likely to spend money on in-app purchases, noting that iPhone and iPad spending accounts for 76% of revenue.

The Roblox Corporation has garnered a large and impressive amount of sales in 2019 alone. This past August, the game's creators announced that it had accumulated over 100 million monthly active users. In addition to reaching such a high and impressive number, the numbers pushed Roblox ahead of popular games Minecraft and Fortnite in terms of active players.

The game's creators have also implemented a number of new initiatives this year alone to the game. Some recent updates include the Digitial Civility Initiative, which was introduced in January 2019, as a way to emphasize community safety within the game. Another change includes the number of recent collaborations to boost the game's educational purposes, like the May 2019 partnership with Tencent in preparation for the game's launch in China.

Roblox is a free-to-play MMO available both for desktop and mobile devices that serve as a host site for a variety of different worlds and games that players can either create or explore. The game is widely popular with younger gamers under the age of eighteen.

Roblox is currently available to play on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Xbox One platforms and consoles. The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases.
