After a brief stint as a premium early access title, Rogue Company is finally available for free on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. It features cross-play support, as well as cross-save support so you can continue playing the same account on another system.
Up until today, the only way to play Rogue Company was by purchasing a Founder's Pack. This gave you instant access to the game, along with a few other perks. Now, however, the title has entered the open beta phase, and Hi-Rez Studios has opened the doors for the masses.
First available in July, Hi-Rez Studios said that this is the most successful game launch in the company's history. Considering the studio is home games titles such as Smite and Paladins, that's an impressive statement. There's no doubt that the switch to a free-to-play platform will drive player counts through the roof.
While the game is published by Hi-Rez, it's actually being developed by First Watch Games, a team that includes former employees from EA, Blizzard, and many other high-profile companies. It's clear the team knows how to develop a polished title and listen to feedback from the players. Rogue Company's executive producer, Chris Larson, said the community's feedback, "…has ensured the game keeps getting better and better."
Rogue Company is a multiplayer third-person shooter that includes multiple characters – or Rogues – for you to choose from. As of now there are four game modes to play:
- Extraction: A 4v4 mode where the attacking team must hack the objective. No respawning.
- Strikeout: A 4v4 mode similar to Extraction, although players can respawn.
- Demolition: Another 4v4 mode, this time with the attacking team scrambling to plant a bomb within a set amount of time.
- Wingman: A 2v2 showdown.
Rogue Company is now available for free on all major platforms, but you'll need to download it from the Epic Games Store if you want to play on PC.
