Indie developer Cellar Door Games has announced that it will be delaying the early access release of Rogue Legacy 2 by a few weeks. Originally slated for a late July premiere, the title will now hit Steam on August 18, 2020.

"It has been a tough decision, but we've decided to delay the launch of Rogue Legacy 2 by three and a half weeks to August 18, 2020," reads a post on the official website. " We've run into a few setbacks and we aren't quite ready to show it yet. We're close though (which is why the delay is so short), we just need a bit more time to get it in a state that we're truly proud to display."

No extra content will be included in this version. The delay is simply to iron out whatever bugs are preventing Rogue Legacy 2 from operating correctly. With the full game not being included -this isn't a case of early access being used as a demo-, Cellar Door likely didn't want people to expect shoddy performance in the final version.

As a refresher, when Rogue Legacy 2 does release, Cellar Door anticipates bi-monthly content updates. This will introduce new areas, new monsters, extra bosses, and obviously visual/gameplay polish. Patches for performance or gameplay-related bugs will come as needed.

The original title (which released back in 2013) was an excellent spin on the then-burgeoning "roguelike" subgenre. Introducing a unique twist of persistent progression in the form of various upgrades, the game turned what would otherwise be a grind into a compelling hook. Mixed with its unique art style and quirky charm, Rogue Legacy was one of the better games that year.

The expectations are high going into this sequel, but I'm not too scared of what Cellar Door is cooking up. If the company is confident enough to delay the game now instead of pushing out a crappy product -which it easily could have in early access-, then we're bound to get another winner from the team.

For now, Rogue Legacy 2 is a PC exclusive. It will likely hit consoles once it releases and may even be a next-generation game.
