The RPG genre has expanded quite a bit since the classic text to play games from the late 80s’. Now the games have grown to encompass a variety of playstyles that appeal to many different personality types.

If you’re looking to dive into the rich words of RPGs or maybe you’re looking for something else to occupy your time for a few months then consider looking for an RPG based on your own Myers-Briggs® Type. To get you started here are some of the more popular RPGs in recent times and which personality type they’d be most appealing to.

10 Witcher 3 – ISTJ

The Witcher 3 is a rich game with a living breathing world full of people that need your help. Your actions can be selfish, but every monster or hostile person you take down makes the world a safer place for everyone else.

ISTJs will do well in this environment as it favors the more serious and patient players out there. Each battle is carefully planned for and preparations are made to ensure the monster comes down quickly and safely. If you like the lone wolf style of living where your methodical steps towards your own goals also helps others, then this is the game for you.

9 Divinity Original Sin 2 – ESTJ

Compared to many on this list your role in the world is much more important in Divinity Original Sin II. There are choices you must make and battles you must fight to become the Godwoken to remove evil from the world or impose your own evil on things.

Because of this consideration for right and wrong, good versus evil and how you fall on the spectrum of morality ESTJs will really enjoy this game. In addition to finding your own place in this fictional world you must guide your companions and help them thrive. If you like decisions that have weight and defining your own role and moral compass then this is a great game.

8 WoW Classic – ENTP

World Of Warcraft: Classic is much different than it’s modern counterpart. In this game you’ll find yourself grinding to upper levels and better gear with groups of people you know well enough to fight alongside but aren’t expected to engage in small talk after the battle.

With so many skills and quests there are lots of things to do which ENTPs will enjoy. For those that do want to flex their social skills this game is full of people ready to talk about the lore, the good old days of nostalgia, and rarely anything personal or intimate.

7 Borderlands 3 – ESTP

Where other RPGs take themselves seriously and provide real consequences for your decisions, Borderlands 3 embraces the concept that there are no rules and you’re free to do whatever you want in this insane world.

It’s a dream game for ESTPs who like the freedom to do what they want without consequence. Any mistake in character building is fixed with little cost and a few minutes of your time. Pick this game if you want a world of mindless mayhem that doesn’t require too much critical thinking to enjoy.

6 Remnant: From The Ashes – ENFP

Remnant From The Ashes Promotional Shot Of Multiple Playable Characters Fighting Monsters

You are one of the few survivors in a world ravaged by the Root, hostile creatures from another world that are seemingly unstoppable. In Remnant: From The Ashes you are expected to face these monsters head on and dive into alien realms to discover their secrets.

It’s a game out of the typical mold that ENFPs will thrive in. Favoring both solo play and co-op you’ll be able to feel independent and work as part of a group depending on your mood that day. The secrets that can be uncovered in this game will also be alluring for ENFPs who like to use their intuition and find out of the box solutions to problems.

5 Destiny 2 – ISFP

There is a lot of content to dive into with Destiny 2 especially with the recent release of Shadowkeep. As you grind your power levels, tackle the multitude of quests and explore alien worlds you’ll begin to unravel the compelling story of the last survivors of mankind in their fight against the universe.

It’s a great game for ISFPs who want to be more social but aren’t great at first contact. You’ll find other players who will consider you their friend if you’re halfway decent at the game and enjoy exploring new things, which as an ISFP shouldn’t be a problem.

4 Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – INTJ

In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey you are destined to become a demigod and your actions will shape the political landscape of Greece for years to come. This requires you to become self-sufficient, work alone, and develop plans for your ascension to obtaining godlike powers and gear.

INTJs will find this ancient landscape is a sandbox for their creative desires and personal pursuits. In addition to all the beast slaying and political upheaval is an interesting story that twists and turns to an interesting conclusion. There’s also a secretive cult that requires an INTJ mind to find and eliminate from Greece’s shadowy underbelly.

3 Fire Emblem Three Houses – ENTJ

Fire Emblem Threee Houses is different from the others in this list in that you are a professor tasked with educating and arming a bunch of students to become a powerful army and repel the forces of evil. In addition to improving your own abilities you are helping other students improve theirs.

This is a wonderland for ENTJs who enjoy stepping into leadership roles and helping others thrive. They’ll enjoy leading others into battle, unlocking their talents, and being busier on their off days than any other day of the week.

2 Fallout 4 – ISFJ

The area of Boston is in rough shape after the nuclear holocaust. In addition to finding a way to survive raider attacks, radiation poisoning, and mutated creatures you must find the man who murdered your spouse and stole your son.

ISFJs will feel right at home in this game as they seek to solve others problems and ally with a faction that has the best future in mind for the Commonwealth. Likely ISFJs will side with the Minutemen who seek to build settlements and outposts where others can safely live and simultaneously unite the entire Commonwealth.

1 Monster Hunter World - ISTP

In Monster Hunter World you step into the shoes of a monster hunter who seeks to improve their own skills and abilities as they slay gargantuan creatures and unstoppable Elder Dragons. Each monster is merely practice for the next and a way to obtain resources for the tools you’ll need.

This progression of bigger and tougher challenges makes it a fun game for ISTP personalities. Logic and rationality are required to outsmarting the massive beasts and a little bit of spontaneity and unpredictably will help you survive the actual fight.
