We don't yet know who the main villain will be in this summer's Detective Pikachu. However, the latest rumor is that we will see Mewtwo return to the big screen.

Other than superheroes, the hottest trend in cinema right now is turning animated classics into live-action movies. Disney is very much riding this wave having already released live-action versions of The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast. Dumbo and The Lion King are also currently in the pipeline. As exciting as that is, we are most looking forward to Pikachu manifesting in the real world.

This summer, Pikachu will don a detective hat and star in the creatively named live-action movie, Detective Pikachu. In 2018, fans were given their first look at what a real-life Pikachu will look like, along with some other creatures from the wide wide world of Pokemon. Some of them look great and others, well, not so much. We're looking at you, Mr. Mime.

What we currently don't know all that much about is the movie's plot. Well, We Got This Covered may have just shed a little light on that. According to the site, Mewtwo will be Pikachu's primary antagonist in the film. The rumor is that the iconic Pokemon's actions will be controlled by a human villain. How Mewtwo might look in the movie has been imagined by a fan and you can check it out below.

Long time Pokemon fans will recall a time when Mewtwo was a pesky villain in the past. In the very first feature-length Pokemon movie, the also creatively named Pokemon: The First Movie, Mewtwo battled with his fellow Pokemon and also almost killed Ash at one point. In that instance, Mewtwo hated humans due to Team Rocket messing with it. Could that mean we see the evil corporation return in Detective Pikachu?

If Mewtwo does play a starring role in Detective Pikachu, it is going to be a busy 2019 for the evil Pokemon. The aforementioned original Pokemon movie has been recreated using CGI and will be released later this year. As of now, it is only set for release in Japan but could eventually make its way over to the US as well. 2019 could very well be the year of the Mewtwo.
