Cyberpunk 2077 may have added a huge star to its cast, as there are rumors that Lady Gaga will be motion-capping and voicing one of the characters in the game.
The French video game website ActuGaming is reporting that sources have spotted the A Star Is Born actress entering the studio of CD Projekt Red and that she is taking part in a collaboration with the Cyberpunk 2077 project. Lady Gaga is reportedly performing motion-capture for one of the characters in the game (possibly as part of a musical performance) and that the collaboration will be officially announced at E3 2019.
If Lady Gaga is appearing in Cyberpunk 2077, then it would make her the only famous name attached to the project so far. CD Projekt Red has been tight-lipped about the voice actors who are working on the game and the only one currently announced is Cherami Leigh, as the voice of the female protagonist. We still don't know who is voicing the male version of the protagonist.
A celebrity voicing a video game character is a common occurrence and Lady Gaga is fresh off her "Best Actress" nomination at the Academy Awards. The aesthetic of Cyberpunk 2077 seems like it would gel well with the one used by Lady Gaga in her music, so her presence in the game might be a natural fit, especially if she is playing a musician.
There are times when the world of musicians and video games should never have met, lest we forget the terrible song and video released by Paul McCartney when he collaborated with the first Destiny game. Lady Gaga herself has also had a spotty history with voice acting, as her role in The Simpsons was part of one of the most reviled episodes of all time.
Cyberpunk 2077 still lacks a release date, but it's due to be featured at E3 2019, where we may finally learn when the game will be released. It may be possible that Lady Gaga will actually appear at E3 to promote the game, but only time will tell if that is the case.
