Last week, Rockstar Games announced that GTA Online's biggest update yet would be coming later this year, bringing fresh heists and a brand new location to the game. Now, if recent leaks are correct, it sounds like that new location will be a remastered version of Grand Theft Auto IV's Liberty City.

A Reddit user by the name of "markothemexicam" claims to have a roommate that was recently laid off by Rockstar North, and that roommate appears to be giving them information about the company's upcoming plans for GTA Online. The user correctly predicted the game's PS5 announcement, and even posted about the upcoming summer update three whole months ago, so we have reason to at least hear them out.

According to the user, a completely remastered version of Liberty City will be the primary focus of GTA Online on the next generation of consoles. The city will come with a brand new heist focused on robbing gold reserves, as well as new freemode activities and quick jobs.

Apparently, Rockstar's future GTA Online content will all focus on Liberty City, bringing new features to the New York City-inspired location with each update. Not only that, but Niko Bellic, GTA IV's protagonist, will be coming back as well, likely leading the new heist. Michael Hollocik will be reprising his role as the Eastern European.

While this news is certainly exciting, it's important to emphasize that nothing is official just yet. All of this information is unverified, but given the fact that this leaker has been accurate in the past, and that Rockstar just recently promised a massive update with a brand new location, they might actually be onto something.

After all, it does seem as if Rockstar will need to do something big in order to justify bringing GTA Online onto its third generation of consoles. A GTA VI announcement doesn't look to be coming any time soon, and players have become frustrated with Rockstar's continued promotion of a seven-year-old game.

That being said, introducing an entirely new map to the game would certainly catch the attention of current players as well as those who haven't visited the title in years. The idea of playing GTA Online within Liberty City is an exciting one, so we'll be crossing our fingers and holding out hope that there's some truth behind this leak.
