Calling all Pokémon trainers! Looks like Hollywood is planning to take audiences on an adventure back to Pallet Town. According to a new report from We Got This Covered, Legendary Entertainment is gearing up to work on two new possible films set in the Pokémon universe, starting with a focus on the enigmatic psychic Pokémon, Mewtwo, and another based off of the original video games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. At this time, it is currently unclear if the plot of either film will be related to one another, or Legendary’s upcoming film, Detective Pikachu. Naturally, childhood nostalgia is a common theme for many new movies and reboots these days, and it’s time to keep your Pokédex on deck.

For '90s kids, Pokémon certainly needs no introduction, as the Gameboy titles have been a pop culture sensation. Although the original series only featured 151 different "Pocket Monsters", the Pokémon universe has sprawled into multiple followup titles, including an upcoming live-action inspired by a spin-off series.

Created by Legendary, Detective Pikachu has certainly raised some eyebrows with the film's rather strange concept. Featuring Deadpool alum Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu, the movie also stars young up-and-coming actor, Justice Smith. Legendary appears to be confident with this comedic approach, and reports have been circulating with a possible Mewtwo spinoff and now, an adaptation based off of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.

Pokémon Red & Blue saw the player character receiving their first ever Pokémon, and embarking on an adventure to defeat every gym and become the Pokémon League Champion. Along the way, they take down Team Rocket, a massive criminal organization headed by one of the most powerful gym leaders.

As compelling as this new headline may be, unfortunately, this report is still a rumor, and it is not officially confirmed yet. As we wait for an official statement from Legendary regarding moving forward with these projects, fans can still look forward to seeing Detective Pikachu this summer. The trailer has already created some significant buzz, with fans already cracking up over Ryan Reynolds portrayal of everyone’s beloved electric Pokemon, Pikachu. Directed by Rob Letterman, Detective Pikachu will hit theaters on May 10th. Stay tuned for more developments regarding the Pokémon franchise here at The Gamer!
