Marvelous Interactive released more images for Rune Factory 5 today, showing off the variety of weapons you'll find during your adventure and providing a detailed look at its combat system.

Rune Factory 5 still doesn't have a release date for most of the world – it's currently slated for a May 20 release in Japan – but this new library of images is a nice consolation prize. Better yet, most of the screenshots include commentary that reveals more about its characters and combat. Here are a few of the highlights.

Rune Factory 5 Weapons

"From swords to axes, staffs, and more, there are eight weapon types with unique characteristics in Rune Factory 5," said Marvelous. "By continuously using the same weapon type, you can improve your skills and learn step attacks, charge attacks, and more."

Weapons in Rune Factory 5 include:

  • One-Handed Sword
  • Two-handed Sword
  • Dual Swords
  • Spear
  • Axe
  • Hammer
  • Fists
  • Staff

Rune Abilities and Seed Circle

Rune Abilities are special attacks that require Rune Points (RP). Rune Abilities can be swapped out at any time, letting you change playstyles on the fly depending on your enemies.

As for the Seed Circle, this is an item that Seed members can use to bind monsters and temporarily make them your ally.

Bring A Friend For The Adventure

You'll have the ability to bring townsfolk and monsters along for the adventure – and they'll level up just like the main character. Townspeople in Rune Factory 5 will include:

  • Randolph: An old man and honest baker who always seems to wear a smile.
  • Yuki: An "innocent personality" that runs the bakery with Randolph.
  • Heinz: Runs a shop in town, but is looking to sell it to go on adventures.
  • Doug: A buff Dwarven blacksmith.
  • Palmo Crasi Viviage: A famous architect who designed most of the buildings in Rigberth.

The latest trailer for Rune Factory 5 didn't show off much combat, but it did reveal improved visuals, farming mechanics, and more.

Rune Factory 5 will launch for the Switch on May 20 in Japan and sometime in 2021 in the west.
