Saints Row 2020: Everything We Know So Far

How much is really known about the next Saints Row game?

The CEO of Koch Media, publisher of the Saints Row games, stated in a recent interview that the Saints Row series is near and dear to the hearts of not only the fans, but also the development team. The last installment was 2013's Saints Row IV, which expanded on Saints Row: The Third's zany formula with obtainable superpowers and a plethora of references to The Matrix. There was also an expansion released for that game called Saints Row: Gat out of Hell. Recently, Saints Row developer Volition confirmed that there is a new Saints Row game in the works, but how much is really known about the game?

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz briefly discussed the next Saints Row title. According to Kundratitz, the game will be talked about at a greater length in 2020. Furthermore, Kundratitz has confidence in the quality of the next title in the series. While he stated that it's "going to be great," Kundratitz also said that Volition is hard at work on the next Saints Row title right now as their main focus, so as to not be distracted by other projects.

Volition had previously mentioned in a tweet that the next Saints Row game was "deep in development," calling it the "next big, bold, and very badass" Saints Row iteration. That said, it's unknown how deep in development the game truly is and whether it will be ready for release as soon as next year. However, it might be safe to assume that the next game is past its initial development phases.

Obviously, details are sparse on the next Saints Row game; only that it will be discussed by Koch Media or its affiliates next year. However, it is coming; we just need a little patience.

There are some basic features that the next game should definitely have, including the ability to walk into more buildings, a toned-down story compared to the series' third and fourth iterations, and further customization options. Ultimately, though, it still needs to feel like Saints Row, with chaotic storytelling and all.

In any case, we should find out more about the next Saints Row next year.
