As was speculated last week, Gamescom Opening Night Live 2021 kicked off with a new trailer for the Saints Row reboot. Simply going by the title of "Saints Row," the reveal trailer revealed a radically different look for the GTA-like series. Actually utilizing the word reboot properly, none of the original characters we've come to know and love are present.

This new patch of gang members will be led by actor Bryce Charles. Playing the role of the "Boss," players will not have a character creator this time out. There is more of an actual plot instead of loosely tied missions that culminate in an Alien Invasion and universe altering reboot. A brief gameplay snippet showed us what looked like familiar gameplay mechanics, though it's hard to really tell what was going on.

Going on from the ending in Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, there is potential for characters like Johnny Gat, Shaundi, and Pierce to return in this installment. That doesn't seem to be the current focus, though, which is good. It's better to start a reboot on a different note than constantly try to tie things to the past.

Saints Row is planned for release on February 25, 2022, for PC (via the Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It's kind of a bummer that this won't be a true next-gen exclusive, but if cross-play is involved, then all will be forgiven. Pre-orders are currently live for the title on your platforms respective digital storefront.
