EVO 2019 is underway and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to be the biggest game at the event. Masahiro Sakurai has taken to Twitter to talk about the popularity of the game and to thank fans for their birthday wishes.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was the most registered game at EVO 2019 and it will be the final game played at the event. The buzz around Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been maintained since its release, thanks to some surprising DLC character announcements and regular balance updates that have shaken up the competitive scene. The fact that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a much faster and more visually impressive game than its predecessor means that it has become a popular choice for streamers, all of which has contributed to it becoming the third best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, it is quickly closing in on the second-place spot, which is currently held by Super Mario Odyssey.

Masahiro Sakurai has taken to Twitter to wish good luck to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competitors at EVO 2019. This was followed by a message that thanked the fans for their birthday wishes, as Sakurai's birthday falls on August 3. He is turning 48.

Those who are familiar with Sakurai's physical appearance, due to seeing him in Direct presentations and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate live streams, will know that he is apparently ageless, as he has not appeared to have aged for the past 20 years, at least. It's possible that the tears of Super Smash Bros. fans are an ingredient in some sort of Philosopher's Stone that he uses to keep himself eternally young, which means that he can continue to never take vacations well into the year 3000.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might be at EVO 2019, but the version of the game with the previous patch is the one that will be running, which means no Hero from Dragon Quest. It seems that fans will have to wait a little longer to see if the Luminary/Erdrick/Solo/Eight will be viable in high-level play.
