Acclaimed British game designer and indie developer Sam Barlow made his name with the highly original interactive movie video game Her Story. He followed it up with spiritual sequel Telling Lies. As with his previous title, it used live action full-motion video and told a layered narrative. His latest game is Immortality. Originally scheduled to launch July 26, Immortality will now launch on PC, Xbox, and mobile on August 30. "Today we're pushing back the release date for Immortality to August 30th 2022," Barlow announced, via his Twitter."It has taken decades for Marissa Marcel's work to find the light of day, so we're happy to spend a month more to ensure the experience is as polished as possible.Related: Immortality Preview - I Don't Know What This Is, But I Think I Like ItWe hope everyone anticipating the game will understand this necessary evil and continue to prepare to dig into the most complex mystery we have tried to answer yet: What happened to Marissa Marcel?"

Barlow did post some new screenshots from the game, alongside the delay announcement, which you can see above.

Immortality is about fictional actress Marissa Marcel and the three movies she starred in before disappearing. Players watch various clips and try to uncover the mystery behind her disappearance. "I was often completely lost, but I think that's a good thing," our editor-in-chief Stacey Henley wrote in her preview of the game.

"It’s not just the mixture of clips that makes Immortality such an interesting prospect, but the freedom it gives you. I started experimenting with what I could click on, and while the mechanic advertises itself as being for characters, I struggled to find something actually off-limits. Shoes, tables, guns, knives, masks, and scripts all linked up to another clip."

Barlow hired Scottish screenwriter and producer Allan Scott, who co-created Netflix's The Queen's Gambit, and American writer Amelia Gray, author of novels and short stories as well as screenwriting for Mr. Robot, to help with Immortality. It's been hinted that Immortality is likely to launch on other platforms following its initial release.
