There's one place you probably shouldn't be horny on main, and that's on the official brand Twitter of a major video game release. Sure, there's nothing stopping you, but it's not the best look. You're bound to make somebody upset, and then somebody's going to get upset at that person getting upset, and then death threats are going to happen. It's just a bad time.

Anyway, the Samurai Shodown Twitter bore witness to this exact cycle of events earlier this month. Following the reveal of absolute unit Iroha, the account began to tweet out screenshots from the latest gameplay trailer. These screenshots were pretty thirsty for the character, and basically all focused on her ass. It was all capped off by the account sharing a ton of community reactions with one simple caption:

"We all horny on main tonight."

Reactions were pretty swift. People making horny comments felt a brief moment of power in a world where some social justice boogeyman is out to get them or something. People who somehow continue to be shocked that fighting games are incredibly racy got pretty bent out of shape about it. Some people tried to actually raise compelling arguments about women's uphill battle of being taken seriously in the fighting community, but people immediately dogpiled them - continuing a trend in the community where women just don't say anything because talking in and of itself is scrutinized.

Enough heat got sent towards SNK that they later followed up with an apology.

This whole situation is pretty dicey. From a marketing standpoint, it makes sense to cater to horny anime fans - we'll buy literally anything, after all. That said, women in the esports scene get treated like dirt for just existing most of the time, and prominent women in the scene should absolutely be listened to when it comes to how to improve the community.

Ultimately, the real takeaway here is that social media teams should know their audience before going totally off the cuff. It might be tempting to chase those controversy clicks, but sometimes, it does a lot more harm than good.
