Alongside news that The King of Fighters XV would be getting a debut gameplay trailer on January 7, 2021, SNK's Yasuyuki Oda stated that the first two characters for Samurai Shodown's upcoming season three will be revealed on the same day. As you may remember from last month, the company announced that a character from The Last Blade series would be crossing over in this season and that is the first new fighter we'll see.

As well as getting whomever from The Last Blade, another unannounced fighter will be shown off. This is likely to be Cham Cham, who was heavily hinted at during season two of Samurai Shodown. Anything is possible here, but going by previous seasons, it seems more veterans will be joining the battle instead of completely new fighters.

There weren't many clues as to which fighters would be included, but Oda promised it will be "someone the fans absolutely adore." That could only mean good things, especially since SNK has been very successful in catering to fans with all of the current DLC for this fighter.

What will be interesting to learn is what is going on with the upcoming next-generation port for Samurai Shodown. Supposedly still on track to hit the Xbox Series X and S this winter, we don't know much about how it will be enhancing the currently available experience. Is it going to be some kind of "complete" edition with all DLC fighters? I guess we'll just need to wait on that.
