There’s a glitch in Samurai Showdown that will let characters live on even without a life bar.

Samurai Showdown came out a month ago and it’s doing fairly well, all things considered. SNK announced they’d sold over 40,000 units worldwide, with most of those sales assumed to be in Japan. That’s still pretty good for a relatively obscure fighting game.

But as with most new games, it released with a few bugs. One particularly noteworthy bug breaks the game so badly that players become invincible avatars even after losing all their health.

We have YouTube account Combonauts to thank for providing a delightful example of just how crazy this bug can get. It results in bizarre camera angles, invisible fireballs, nonexistent hitboxes, and for characters to live on even after they die.

The bug centers around Jubei and a bizarre interaction with several of his moves. The video explains at the end by showcasing a fight against Haohmaru and does a great job of explaining every step.

"While Jubei is performing his back throw and Weapon Flipping Technique combo, Haohmaru uses Rage Explosion [his Rage Burst] to interrupt Jubei allowing Jubei to react faster and connect his Super Special Move during Weapon Flipping Technique. The Super Special Move is not programmed to combo with anything, becoming bugged."

And what happens after the Super Special Move becomes bug? Freakin’ anything.

Earlier portions of the video show Jubei becomes virtually impervious to damage. Several fights end in a draw even though one or the other character is clearly out of health first. Attacks and special moves pass through Jubei like he's not even there. One fight results in Ruixiang being reduced to zero health, but she keeps on fighting and uses her Super Special Move to defeat Jubei.

Who becomes invincible seems to be pretty much random, so you never know who will live and who will experience an extended un-death.

This sort of bug is almost certain to be patched out eventually, but in the meantime, Jubei players might want to be extra careful about using this particular combo.
