Koei Tecmo announced a number of new and returning characters for Samurai Warriors 5 during a live stream this morning and one just so happens to be Yasuke, a.k.a. The Obsidian Samurai. Known for his devout protection of lord Oda Nobunaga, it's always been something of a glaring omission in past Samurai Warriors titles that Yasuke wasn't present. Likely due to his presence in Nioh and Nioh 2, he's now getting a chance to join in on the Warriors mayhem.

The other characters announced on Koei Tecmo's Twitter account include returning veterans Sandayū Momochi, Magoichi Saika, and the legendary Hattori Hanzō. Supposedly this rounds out the entire cast, which will contain 27 characters to play from. There are bound to be extras not included in the story mode, but that would be a fairly dramatic decrease in combatants from past Samurai Warriors titles.

As seen in the character trailer, both Oda Nobunaga and Mitsuhide Akechi will have selectable "Mature" skins that age them up to their older selves. Since the main plot of Samurai Warriors 5 deals with an earlier time period and features a more animated aesthetic, it's cool to see the differences between the two.

The last bit of news revealed is that Japan will be getting an Xbox One port of the game alongside the PC, PS4, and Switch ports on June 24, 2021. The rest of the world will need to wait a few days until June 27, 2021, to play the game. That's honestly fine, especially since this looks like a truly stunning sequel.
