Competitive scholastic esports platform PlayVS has just announced their sponsors and the prizes up for grabs in their upcoming Summer Showdown Tournament, and some big industry names have been mentioned.

PlayVS takes pride in the fact that their Summer Showdown event is the biggest nation-wide high school and college tournament in the history of scholastic esports. It's not surprising then that they have attracted the attention of some of the industry's biggest companies as sponsors. To bring a pretty impressive range of prizes to the table, PlayVS have partnered with Riot Games, Epic Games, Alienware, Logitech G, and a bunch more.

Prizes include Alienware m15 laptops with EyeSafe technology, Logitech G Pro Gaming Mice and Keyboards, Respawn gaming chairs, and more. Check out the full list of prizes here.

The event will comprise two separate tournaments for high school and college students - a League of Legends tournament for high schoolers and a Fortnite tournament for college-goers.

For high school students, your LoL tournament will take place over the course of two weeks and is open to all high schools in the US for free, whether you have competed with PlayVS before or are new to the platform. More than 1,000 high schools will apparently be competing in 8 regional competitions in that time. The deadline to sign up is August 24th, 2020.

Similarly, the Fortnite tournament is open to all college and university students in the US for free, regardless of whether or not you have competed with PlayVS before. This tournament will feature over 200 colleges who will compete in one big ol' national tournament. The deadline to register for this one is August 19th, 2020.

PlayVS CEO and founder Delane Parnell says this will be "the biggest Summer Showdown yet," despite the COVID-19 situation. Teams will be allowed to compete in whichever setting they need to according to relevant social distancing guidelines, allowing for maximum participation.

"Social distancing guidelines have made this summer and the upcoming school year challenging for many, but esports gives all students the opportunity to participate in a fun and safe extracurricular activity whether they’re attending school in-person or remote learning at home,” says Parnell.

You can sign up for the high school tournament here, which begins on August 31st, with the championship match taking place on September 12th. Otherwise, sign up for the college tournament here, which kicks off on August 22nd, with the Fortnite Championship going down on August 25th.
