Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game could be making a return, almost six years after it was inexplicably removed from Xbox 360 and PS3.
Nostalgia has never been a bigger money-spinner than it is right now, perhaps in the video game world more than any other medium. The remasters of the Crash and Spyro trilogies have been massive hits, Final Fantasy 7 Remake remains one of the biggest releases of 2020, and the soon-to-be-released Super Mario 3D All-Stars is already the second-best-selling game of the year on Amazon.
Chances are no matter how niche or obscure a title, there is someone out there who wants it to be the next in what has become a very long line of remasters. One game we hadn't thought about for a while that might be added to that list later today is Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game.
The sidescroller was delisted from the Xbox 360 and PS3 online stores on December 30, 2014. Although unexplained, considering the date on which the game and its DLC disappeared, it's assumed that its license expired. However, following a summer of teases courtesy of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels' creator Bryan Lee O'Malley, fans of the game could see its return announced later today at Ubisoft's Forward event.
The tease began when O'Malley tweeted Ubisoft asking the developer to bring the game back on the 10th anniversary of the Scott Pilgrim movie's release. Ubisoft replied with a thinking emoji, allowing the speculation to begin. Nothing more was said until August of this year when O'Malley confirmed on Twitter that Ubisoft had reached out to him. It would certainly make sense that the game's potential re-release announcement would have been saved for today's event.
Due to the simplicity of the game and how recently it was first released, the Scott Pilgrim game probably wouldn't require a complete remaster. Just some adjustments here and there like the three Mario games coming to Nintendo Switch next week. Its fans just want the game back, and some additional content wouldn't go amiss either.
