Henry Cavill has assured gamers that he is familiar with the video game adaptations of The Witcher, as he talked about his passion for the series during San Diego Comic-Con.

Henry Cavill is best-known for playing Superman in the DCEU. The negative reaction to movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League made it seem as if the fate of the DCEU was sealed and there was a lot of speculation that Cavill would not be reprising the role of Superman in any more movies. Cavill has been busy with other projects for the past year, as he was cast as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher.

The Witcher is an adaptation of a series of novels, but the franchise is best-known for the video game adaptations of the same material by CD Projekt Red. Cavill was asked about his familiarity with The Witcher video games during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. According to Comic Book ResourcesCavill is a huge fan of The Witcher video games, which is what made him interested in the role.

"What attracted me to Geralt ... I'm a big gamer. I played the games a lot. There was something about Geralt that really struck a cord with me, he's not your average hero... he won't treat everyone perfectly, and at the same time, deep down, he's a real hero."

Henry Cavill has been campaigning to play as Geralt since 2018 and he would go on to win the role, despite some reservations from fans of the video games who didn't see the man best-known for Superman in the dirty leather armor of a witcher. The discontent concerning Cavill's casting as Geralt was amplified when early test footage of him in costume made it look as if he was cosplaying Fabio.

Netflix has since revealed posters of Cavill in his Geralt costume and the recently released teaser trailer for the show has a more impressive look for the character. Cavill's version of Geralt won't be the same as the one from the video games, but it's not supposed to be. Cavill will be doing his own take on Geralt, yet it remains to be seen whether it will work or not.

The Witcher is due to be released on Netflix later this year.
