After almost forty years since the original's release, fans of Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal are almost done waiting for a follow-up. On August 30, Netflix will debut The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, a 10-episode prequel series that will establish much of the lore and backstory of the original film. However, diehard fans might want to make the trek to San Diego Comic-Con beforehand, as The Jim Henson Company has a special panel lined up for the event.

As part of a three-hour Netflix block on July 19 with The WitcherAge of Resistance will be getting an lengthy panel that promises fans an early look at the hotly-anticipated series. Netflix released this statement about the panel:

"Netflix presents an exclusive sneak peek at the highly-anticipated fantasy series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, based on Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal. In this stunning new prequel, three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, and set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world. Realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects, the cast and creators discuss all of your burning questions about bringing Thra to life."

Notably, this panel will take up the majority of Netflix's programming block, clocking in at one hour and forty-five minutes. This makes sense, as the series is much closer to release than The Witcher.

As per usual with San Diego Comic-Con, fans can likely expect an extended first look at some footage from the event. For people who have been waiting several decades for this series, that alone may be worth the price of admission.

But most interesting is the promise of "cast and creators" being present at the event. This is worth pointing out, as, despite a large amount of the star-studded cast already being announced, several key characters have not had their voices revealed to the world yet. Comic-Con would be an excellent platform to unveil the voices for major roles such as UrSu, SkekSa, and Vliste-Staba.

One character of particular interest is UrSu, who was the master of protagonist Jen in the original film. UrSu was originally voiced by Brian Meehl, who has since left the puppet business and worked in the writer's room for shows like Codename: Kids Next Door and Cyberchase - as well as authored numerous YA books. It's unlikely that Meehl will return for the show, especially considering it being a prequel, so Netflix unveiling the character's new voice at the panel would be fairly significant.

Fans will only have to wait a few more weeks to see whatever Netflix has to show, though. Plus, after nearly four decades, that will be the easiest wait they've ever had.
