New pirates be sailing the waters of the Sea of Thieves! At Xbox's 2021 E3 conference, Sea of Thieves developer Rare announced a Pirates of the Caribbean called A Pirate's Life. The update brings a collection of missions that introduce the characters from Pirates of the Caribbean to the world of Sea of Thieves.The expansion tells the tale of Davy Jones who has set his sights on taking over the Sea of Thieves. And only the most courageous Pirates can stop him. With the help of Captain Jack Sparrow (and a few other familiar faces), the Pirates in Sea of Thieves must take down this new threat and ensure that Davy Jones's locker (permanent death) doesn't rule their waters. Things will never be the same on the Sea of Thieves after this epic Pirates of the Caribbean crossover.
8 Prison Dog: That's A Good Boy
Fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and movies will remember this dog and his ring of keys. The Prison Dog is a staple of the Pirates franchise and he typically sits outside of a cell full of pirates trying to lure it over with a bone.
Prison Dog appears in several tall tale missions in A Pirate's Life and is also available as a pet for purchase at the Pirate Emporium. You'll even see him interacting with Captain Jack Sparrow when you first encounter him.
7 Captain Jack Sparrow: Savvy?
You cannot have a Pirates of the Caribean crossover without the greatest scoundrel to sail the seas, Captain Jack Sparrow. Jack is the primary reoccurring character in A Pirate's Life and offers his help to Pirates seeking to stop Davy Jones.
Of course, Jack needs rescuing firsts before he can help, and par for the course, he's found himself stuck somewhere between the living and the dead. Once he finds his way to the Sea of Thieves, Jack will unite his crew to help you take down the Flying Dutchman and the Sirens. All in the name of freedom.
6 Gibbs, Anamaria, and Scrum: A Loyal Crew
Jack's ever-loyal first mate Jashamee Gibbs appears in a Pirate's Life after you free him from the Siren Queen. Gibbs will help prepare the crew for the battle with Davy Jones and his Flying Dutchman. He is also voiced in Sea of Thieves by the original actor Kevin McNally.
Alongside Gibbs, Anamaria and Scrum make cameo appearances and are found with Gibbs in the Sirens lair. Anamaria made an appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and was played by Zoe Saldana.Scrum first appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger tides and is portrayed by Stephen Graham. Together, they help our Pirates and Captain Jack Sparrow defeat Davy Jones.
5 Davy Jones: The Captain Of The Flying Dutchman Returns
The Captain of the Flying Dutchman returns as the primary antagonist in A Pirate's Life. In this expansion, Davy Jones has teamed up with the Sirens to seize control of the Sea of Thieves from the Ferryman and his Ferry of the Damned.
If he succeeds, he will bring his locker, preventing pirates from returning from their watery graves. ​​​​Davy Jones is one powerful foe, so be sure to supply your ship and prepare your crew for an epic battle (although it is possible to go at it alone).
4 Calypso (Tia Dalma): The Godess Of The Sea
The Sea Goddess herself makes a surprise appearance after it's revealed that she is the mysterious stranger. You can find her at any Outpost at the Castaway Camp, and she will be the main quest giver for all of the Tall Tales.
As the former lover of Davy Jones, and the one somewhat responsible for his wicked ways, she enlists courageous pirates to stop her ex from destroying another sea. Despite prior circumstances, it never hurts to have to Goddess of the Sea on your side.
3 Culter Beckett: One Evil White-Wig
Lord Beckett of the East Indian Trading Company makes an appearance in the final tall tale. He's back to continue his antagonistic ways and ambush our heroes with waves of phantoms.
His appearance is brief and frustrating, and he remains on-brand to his personality from the films. Unfortunately, he himself is not a boss fight and his appearance is merely a quick cameo.
2 Release The Kraken!
As part of the deal with the Siren Queen, Davy Jones bestowed his Kraken to the Sirens. The Kraken makes a formidable foe in the second Tall Tale. Krakens were already in the game, but the Kraken is also a notable character in the Pirates films. In the films, the Kraken sent Jack Sparrow to the Locker the first time.
While the Kraken died in the films, death is more temporary in the world of Pirates. Also seeing as the Kraken was a gift to the Sirens from Davy Jones, one can assume they're the same Kraken or related somehow.
1 Captain Barbossa and Other Nods To Pirates Of The Caribbean
While he doesn't appear in the game himself, Captain Barbossa can be heard in the third Tall Tale talking with Tia Dalma (a.k.a Calypso) about his resurrection. Barbossa is just one voice of many that can be overheard during the Tall Tale missions and it is clear that Rare Studios cared deeply about referencing and maintaining the lore established by the films.
And of course, we also get to see the famous The Black Pearl and even fight the Flying Dutchman during A Pirate's Life. Other homages are paid the original Disneyland Ride. Specifically in the third Tall Tale which features faithful recreation of the ride.
